Framed in Gold The Critique: Light dazzles with its shadow show against the building and walkway. The walked is nicely framed within a frame within another frame. There’s an interesting intended diagonal line here between the parking meter up to the light fixture on the far right. Even its shadow partakes in the fun. Drama plays out in splashes of luminosity. Nice depth of focus keeps everything sharp. Nature intrudes just a bit weaving itself into the story. Spatial relationships are clear. Lady in Blue The Critique: She steps into dramatic diagonal light and it’s hard to look away. It’s fascinating how such a simple passage on a street sidewalk takes on a powerful presence and mystery due to the light. Colors contrast as pink and blue mix with neutral tones. She’s reframed by the doorway which makes her seem more fixed in time. Good, deep focus reveals details, lines oppose each other in direction creating visual intersections and paths. Space is well defined and nice balanced. Negative space nicely offsets her vividness. What I had learned.
