It had started with a plate of muffins. Well more specifically it had started with the woman holding the plate, who had appeared on their door step declaring that she was their new neighbour.

Tanya had taken the plate, because what was she going to do? Tell the woman that she hadn’t been able to eat muffins for over a century? And now they were sitting on the dining room table being stared at by five very confused vampires.

“I didn’t think we had neighbours” Irina said finally, picking up a muffin gingerly as if afraid it might combust.

“That because we aren’t supposed to” Kate answered “we don’t live in the middle of no where for the view”

“I mean that is a part of it” pointed out Carmen earning her a pointed glare from Kate.

“Yes but we live here to stay away from humans! Not to share baked goods with them!” Kates voice grew steadily louder as she spoke and Eleazer slid closer to Carmen to avoid the bright sparks that lept inadvertently from her fingertips.

“Is it that big of a deal?” Tanya asked picking up her own muffin and sniffing it curiously.

“Well we won’t be able to walk around in shorts anymore” Kate replied “not if we want to keep a low profile”

“We can’t just tell her we’re used to the cold?”

If looks could kill Tanya decided she would most likely be six feet under judging by the utter malice in Kate’s golden eyes.

“No human in the world is THAT insane and you know it” Kate hissed.

“I don’t know” Irina offered “humans can be pretty stupid”

“Men can be pretty stupid” Kate snapped “she didn’t look stupid, and I do not want to move over this”

“Please” Tanya held both hands up as if attempting to quiet a wild animal “let’s not be like this, she’s not living close it’ll be fine”

“Well what exactly does she do?” Eleazer asked dimplomatically “if she isn’t going to be out side much..”

“She’s a writer” Tanya cut Eleazer off with a pointed grin, “so she’ll be cooped up inside”

“A writer?” Carmens eyes lit up, she was a voracious reader and was most likely already planning a trek over to the next house, most likely with some awful backed goods of her own.

“What does she write?” Irina asked she’d been methodically tearing apart the muffin in her hands and a small pile of crumbs now sat in front of her.

“I don’t know..” Tanya sounded genuinely upset, she hated not knowing things, “but I can find out” she added suddenly hopping up and grabbing her laptop.

“She gave us her name on the card…” Tanya said typing the two words into the search bar.

The expression on her face at the result was one no member of the family would ever forget. Kate craned her neck to see the screen and her eyes brows shot up.

“VAMPIRE romance??” Kate exclaimed so loudly Eleazer covered his ears.

“Mormon vampire romance” Tanya sighed deeply “I’ll look at houses tonight”

“Can we not just eat her?” Irina suggested

“Honestly…” Kate said “if we’d ever make an exception”

(NO SPOILERS) (I just wanted to rant about how GOOD it was omg)

Okay. First things first, I believe this is the best book of the series. It just left me happy.

You can really see what a great person Apollo has developed into. He has recognised (and regretted) his wrongs of his past (something his godly self would shudder at) and promises to be better!

To me, that was simply beautiful. His character development is something to worship!!! I just love it so much.

Meg, as usual remains a Star. Love her. The relationship between the two has also developed really well!
