We might never know. But someone chose him to sing the chorus, and to sing those particular words, "Everything I need I get from you/ And giving back is all I wanna do." Louis recorded the track, and they didn't erase or overdub it, but kept it, for some reason. Maybe it was just an interesting voice--- it's certainly far from a perfect voice. But right away, we know it's Louis--- his clipped Yorkshire inflection gives it away: "And givin' back 'es all I need from you--ooo-ooo." Someone meant for his scratched-out, brittle husk of a voice to contrast with Harry's high, angelic, soaring voice, because only Louis and Harry sing the chorus. Someone meant for Louis' voice, at its most vulnerable and broken, to convey strength and support--- always sending love and encouragement outward. Who could have foreseen how prophetically his voice on IWTWYAS would serve as a metaphor for his situation now? All the boys sing their lines so beautifully, in a song of appreciation to their fans. Louis, above all, reiterates his generous and honest love, in a couple of heartfelt, simple lines.
And that's the real Louis.
god louis touring is a joy 😭😭😭 he's developed into such a playful stage presence IT IS SO DELIGHTFUL TO WATCH. he is so BUSY LOL he is doing so many things at all times. there is so much interaction and so much activity!! he's PLAYING!!!!
he's always been a playful stage presence but my key question/curiosity was how it would come out in his solo performances. i've talked before about how the 'free time' element was so crucial to 1d's general stage behaviour, and louis was always the one to take the most advantage of having 4 other people to steal the spotlight (i feel like his 1d stage time was 50% concocting mischief 50% carrying out mischief 😂) and i've been WAITING for him to truly settle into his solo stage presence (sans collaborators) and find his solo stage identify and he is SO. HIMSELF. he is pure uninhibited louis 😍
ok sorry i had to go bake a cake before i processed my Emotion lol i am just so like!!! really full of love watching the process of louis prepare for a show. like getting to SEE him work with his vocal coach! see him do his warm ups and do his preparation and then fret about whether his preparation was enough, those antsy moments before he gets on stage. seeing helene soothe him and watch him take it on board with such trust and be soothed? that’s so personal, and we got to see it. to see them sitting in that little room backstage in the quiet with nothing but the wait to keep him company. i have thought about this kind of content for YEARS and years, i can’t tell you how much this little away from home doco means to meeee to have that space opened up to me. aND to see him come OFF stage too! to see the whole journey of lead-up nerves to the elated rush coming back off stage. it’s so!!!!!! HIM. it feels so personal and its the kind of thing i’ve wondered of and wished to see for so long and it’s so cool that we got to see it ;____;

god the level of feral i’m at over having a HQ crowd-less recording of just Louis singing Through the Dark.....
god one of the things about don’t let it break your heart is like, that’s louis’ message you know! it’s gonna be okay, it’s gonna be okay, you’re gonna make it. he’s always carried that idea that you’ll get through stuff and you’ll come out stronger, it’s been such a recurrent mantra for him. in his first ever song he says “darling, just hold on,” and he’s said the resulting response to that message and the hope it gave people is what gave him the push to follow a solo career because he wants to give people that feeling, and he’s doing it again with this song. and i think even before he nailed down this idea in his head, it was blooming. he made a smiley part of his signature and then made it his logo, “come on mum let’s make someone happy today”, don’t be defeated, let it make you strong and use it to give someone a smile. like, that’s what he’s doing? it’s such a cohesive message but its really directed every step he takes in his career.

again i just love EVERYTHING about this song. if you paused it at any point like ‘what about this?’ i’d be like yep! that too!
i like the way these verses are sort of talk-y? is there a technical term for that
he also does that thing again that’s like, where a whole line is sung in a single breath, that way the words flow so smoothly into each other, i LOVE it. i always sway very emphatically when i listen to this song, even when i’m driving
i love this chorus hOly frick, one of my favourites absolutely absoLUTELY. you’re the shiver that i can’t shake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the absolute... euphoric feeling of the instruments during the choruses, NOTHING else feels like that, the way they just SWELL, the feeling i get inside listening to it?? and then combined with one of my fav chorus lyrics too GOD
