#lost finale

I like to think the Smoke Monster is like Rover from The Prisoner - a tool or power meant to be used by the island/protector to act as a 'security system' to stop people messing with the heart of the island.

However, because of Jacob and the MIB being raised to be joint protectors, their powers were to be split between them - so when Jacob pushes him into the heart something goes wrong and he is trapped as the security system, while wanting to kill Jacob and destroy and escape the island.

But it’s also not a big goodbye with grand gestures (the ‘you were a good number 2’ is almost a throwaway thing as they’re leaving that chapter behind them). At least in my interpretation, they’ll see each other in heaven when Ben finally joins them, which is why Hurley is very casual with his ‘I’ll see ya’. Its not a final goodbye, because Hurley knows he’ll see Ben again wherever the light takes them, and when he does Alex will be with him and they’ll all be happy.

I started thinking about how Jack’s key to moving on and finding closure wasn’t just Kate it was the amalgamation of everyone he let himself get to know (and let them know him in return) and like let himself feel their love and loss
