For those of you who like information regarding the photo, the above was taken at the Saint-Isidore 10 km and I am at the bottom of the hill in the yellow top.If you could see my face it would show you how much I was looking forward to running up this hill!!!
Week 11 of my schedule is now in the bag, leaving only two weeks until race day. Yikes! This is how week 11 training went:
Monday – Nice and easy 8.05 km run at 10.1kph was on my plan. I decided to make it hilly as the new Tally course is now very hilly. To that end I drove to the Lorneville Community Centre and set off from there. I ran in the direction of Coleson Cove and all you Loopers, know how hilly that is. At 4.1 km I turned and enjoyed one long down and 2 steep up hills on the way back. 8.25 km completed in 47:30.
Tuesday – Day Off
Wednesday – Speed work day and this week was 400 meter repeats. The full work out was 2 mile warm up, dynamic stretches, 4 x strides, 12 x 400’s at 12.9kph, 2 mile cool down. I think this will be a good workout to improve my 5 km pace later in the year if I increase the pace slightly.
Thursday – Day Off
Friday – Nice and easy 8.05 km was on the plan but again I decided to do hills, so I drove to the bottom of Lorneville Road to start from there. I ran up and down the bottom of King William Road 4 times, alternating with the hill at the bottom of Lorneville Road which I did 3 times. This was tough but good as King William is a much gentler but longer incline than Lorneville Road.
Saturday – Day Off
Sunday – My 4th and last 19.3 km long, slow run before Tally. Yay! Cindy and Michael accompanied me for the whole route and Sue did the first 10 km with us. The weather was remarkably good, for the time of year, although the wind did get up for the last 6 km. I found it tough this week, I’m hoping it was just because I had done such a lot of hill training in the previous days.
My non-running highlight of the week was visiting Patrick Girouard’s Dental Health Center in Dieppe and getting my TMJ appliances sorted out and treatment updated. He does amazing work and after several years treatment the staff are like family. Certainly made me more ready to run Tally.
