«CROSS-ROADS» (A Spotify Playlist)
«Cross-Roads» [click HERE for playlist] is a vial of magic, medicinal and restorative. It starts with a greeting to fathers “Elegua Changó” (Tito Puente) and the marvelous poem “Persona” (Lorena Álvarez), so lyrical…touching on truest nature. A cinematic Spanish version of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” (Elena Mendoza and Giorgio Moroder) ensues, crowned by “Brujerías Jotas” (Hidrogenesse). The seminal “Máquina” (Lissette) leads the “Maniac”-beat into “Rosa” (La Prohibida). “Ich bin Musik—Radio Edit” (Frances Barber) was written and produced by Pet Shop Boys for the cabaret show Musik. “Impressive Instant” (Madonna) gives metaphysical reckoning for “Puttin’ on the Ritz” (Taco). “Le fille venue du Froid” (Rita Mitsouko) was recorded in their home studio. It is all deeply poetic: Des paupières/Sur deux yeux a l'envers (Eyelids/On two eyes upside down).
For the cover photo, I was styled by David Robinson, and wore his bedclothes. We shot on location at Hankins House for Wayward Boys, Callicoon, New York, during the winter of 2009.
