I have the headcanon that ghost!Lorelea is a banshee, what do you think??
The more Iāve been working on her story, the more Iāve realised that she definitely has some similarities to a few different banshee descriptions. Iām still not sure if sheās 100% definitely a banshee, but I also canāt ignore the parallels her behaviour has with them.
To get a brief description on her (and why thereās two versions of her) look under the cut.
First letās just explain why thereās two versions of her: Sheās dead.
Left is her when she was alive.
Right is her after she died.
While she was alive:
During her time alive she worked at the Guard of El. She worked as a member of the Absynthe Guard where her main job was noting down the properties of different alchemic ingredients. When she wasnāt doing that she spent her time taking care of any child who needed it. No matter the reason for the need of their care, she was willing to help ensure that all children had a childhood full of love.
She was blind and would almost always wear a bandage/cloth around her eyes. This was more for the benefit of those around her then her own personal use. It was a way to ensure that people (even those who didnāt know her) knew that she was unable to actually see them. The only time that this bandage/cloth was not around her eyes was when she was sleeping.
Despite having less than functional vision, she was still rather capable around Eldarya. When one of your senses donāt work you adapt to the world around you. Her companion was also one of her biggest assistances and personal guide/guard dog.
Her companion was a Minaloo that she named Echo. The two of them were a pair of blind peas in a pod. It was rare that you would ever see them apart, and when you did you knew that there was a problem.
May not have been able to see, but she still put her appearance up on her list as a priority. Over the years she asked people for their genuine opinion on her outfits. After a while she was able to narrow down her clothing choices to a few options that had the greatest positive reaction amongst not only her peers but strangers as well.
The ribbons in her hair have no purpose. They ended up there when she was hanging out/babysitting with children one day and were never removed. The braid was a constant that she kept up for as long as she could until someone told her that it was beginning to look like a mess. And not in the cute way. She would then find someone to redo the braid. Not because she was unable to do it herself, but because she liked the feeling of having people touch her hair.
She died when she was 26 years old.
Now that sheās dead:
Itās been approximately 15 years since Lorelea died. However, time does not seem to pass for her. At least, not in the way that it does for the living.
She has very few memories of her time with the living. The things that she can remember are nothing but fog in her mind. Memories have been mixed and scrambled, her past thoughts and opinions have been twisted, nothing is the way that it was for her.
The pink/purple necklace that she wears is an item that she found on her first day as one of the dead. She wears it for what she calls āsilly sentimental reasonsā.
Days are filled resting wherever she finds herself when the sun rises, while nights are filled wandering in search of something to do. With no guidance as to what her purpose is, she simply waits for people to find her.
Her personality has twisted from one of compassion into one of mischief. No longer does she care for the children that she finds in need of help, instead she gives them impossible riddles, sends them on wild goose-chases, and tells them stories that sets their hairs on end.
She doesnāt know why sheās a spectral being cursed to wander the land of the living. All that she knows is that she finds joy from helping people in the most torturously tedious (for them) ways as possible. Perhaps itās because of the years of loneliness she endured when she first woke up after her death that she despises all who seek her in need of help. Or maybe itās simply that death warped her emotions, leaving her unable to see when people are hurt and need a comforting hug along with the directions back home instead of the near-death inducing scare she usually grants them.
Although the afterlife didnāt grant her the gift of sight, it has improved it to the point where she can see vague shapes near her. Without the ability to see into the distance for all she knows sheās been wandering the same forest she died in since she woke up.
Of course, thereās a lot more to her and her story, but these are the basics of her. If thereās anything that you want to know/clarify, just ask. If thereās anything that I need to correct, just let me know.
