Doutzen Kroes was born on 23 January 1985 in the village of Eastermar, in the Province of Friesland, Netherlands. As a young girl, she aspired to be a professional speed skater.

I first met Doutzen in 2004 when she hadn't long been in New York. I met her on her first shoot for a fairly new magazine at the time, Teen Vogue.

I've managed to dig out the pictures from the Teen Vogue shoot below.These were shot by Lee Broomfield and styled by Charlotte Stockdale, with make-up by Hannah Murray.

Doutzen was oozing with confidence for somebody so young when we met her and we all said afterwards that she was going to become a big model.

We were right, she has since featured on the covers of TIme, Various Vogues, Harpers Bazaar, Elle, Marie Claire, Glamour, W MAgazine, Dazed and Confused, and Numero.  She also appeared regularly in the Victoria's Secret Catalogue and Runway fashion shows in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Doutzen has appeared in numerous campaigns including Gucci, Toimmy Hilfiger, Versace, Valentino, L'oreal, Tiffany, Blumarine, Miu Miu, H&M and Calvin Klein, and in 2005, she was selected as "Model of The Year" on Vogue.com by its readers.

In September 2013, she became the first model in history to appear on the cover of 4 international editions of Vogue in one month. In the same year she appeared on nine Vogue covers in total, more than any other model that year.

In 2014, Doutzen starred  in the new Calvin Klein Reveal Fragrance commercial alongside British Actor Charlie Hunnam.  She also announced the ending of her contract with Victoria's Secret after six years of being with the brand.

Doutzen married to DJ Sunnery James in 2009 and they have 2 children together.
