[undisclosed amount of time ago, undisclosed location]
The chamber… tube it was kept in was strange. It can be assumed that it is what a womb would feel like.
It was unaware of the passage of time, unaware of anything except its own mind. It didn’t know how to describe these sensations, these thoughts. All it knew, all it remembered, is the fact that it is alone, and something deep inside of it aches for something other than the nothingness around it.
Eventually, it was unsure of how much time had passed, what had happened to spark such a change, but it felt something that had been settled deep inside of it gain strength.
[part of the chamber holding it, perhaps the magical bindings, perhaps the scientific aspect of it broke from years and years of being untended to.]
It managed to gain some awareness. It noted the liquid it was suspended in, the clothing billowing around it, the hair that was long enough to act almost as a cape or a cocoon. It noticed the things that kept it bound. It noticed the chamber that dampened its powers. It noticed that it was fully and truly alone, like it had assumed. It noticed it had been useless to hope for something around it, for this prison was exactly what it had assumed it to be. Desolate and lonely, and created to keep it inside, away from the world it craved to experience.
[an amount of time after its revelation]
It had learned that it had certain powers to it. Powers that it could manage to slip through the walls of this tank, this chamber, into the real world.
The first time it did, the shade appeared in the middle of nowhere, in farmland. It was still alone, but the surroundings were… breathtaking. It felt the same, physically, but it could hear. It could see. And the land it found itself in was glorious.
It longed to physically be out there. It would do whatever it took to get out there. It needed to escape out there.
