I just saw Kpop Demon Hunters last night. It really is one of the best movies I've seen all year. What were your thoughts and favorite parts about it?
Right off the bat, I regret not watching it sooner so I could catch the limited-run singalong at my theater, because that would've been awesome. This was such a breath of fresh air. The animation is gorgeous and on point and the fact that Huntrix will go from Glamorous Superstar Idols to Screaming Bug-Eyed Lunacy in like milliseconds is perfection - and I'm nowhere near being a fan of Kpop itself, but the songs are just one banger after another, I gotta get the soundtrack. If I was a kid when this movie came out, I just know my autistic ass would've driven everyone in the house CRAZY with how many times I'd replay the music alone. Is there an art book? I need an art book I need it I need an art book RIGHT NOW
Favorite parts:
The implication that snack-time being interrupted by demons is a recurring problem for Huntrix, and is also relatable as hell. NEVER INTERRUPT MY SNACK TIME IF I HAVEN'T EATEN ALL DAY.
The girls' general reactions and behavior regarding demons reminded me of playing a wacky d20 Modern/Sci-fi/Fantasy genre combo campaign with meatspace friends back in late high school/early college. It felt good to unexpectedly be brought back to that time in my life.
Bobby is so clueless about everything the girls do and I love him.
Mira and Zoey getting hyped up for lazing around on the couch doing NOTHING is such a mood, because sometimes after a long day at work you just wanna kick back, turn your brain off and watch a turtle documentary. COUCH COUCH COUCH COUCH COUCH
The reveal of Rumi's patterns changing the entire trajectory of the plot - like one is savvy enough to see the turns this movie will take, sure, but the delivery is excellent and rife with applicability considering how desperate Rumi is to hide her half-demon nature.
The public interactions between Huntrix and the Saja Boys is hysterical, especially the one guy (Mystery?) just barking like a dog out of nowhere and Zoey whacking him with her pen.
Rumi, after she's been outed as half-demon and runs away from Mira and Zoey, then confronting Celine for seeming only capable of loving her human side and just wanting the demon side to just not exist is just OOOOH. OHHHHH. APPLICABILITY AND METAPHOR AND INTERPRETATION. GRAHHHHHHHH
"Don't you get it?! This is what I am! Look at me! Why can't you look at me?! WHY COULDN'T YOU LOVE ME?!" "I do!" "ALL OF ME!"
Rumi's decision to let this Honmoon be destroyed SO A NEW HONMOON CAN BE MADE. "When darkness meets the light." GRAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
"You're just my type~! :D Oh well! >:D"
DERPY AND THE FLOWER POT. ALSO THE FACT THAT THE TIGER'S NAME IS DERPY. I LOVE HIM. I WANT A BIG PLUSHIE OF HIM AND SUSSIE.
(go figure I'd like the six-eyed magpie, considering the monster form I've given Elster lmao)
