Longteng Bridge was built in 1905 under Japanese colonial era and crossed Longteng river. The entire Bridge was only made of redbrick without any reinforcing bars, however the structure was still very tight and firm.

Until in the morning of 1935 April 24, a very strong earthquake hit Taiwan. lts epicenter was near Mt. Guandao which was near Sanyi township. There were many buildings destroyed including Longteng Bridge. The bridge can’t be fixed, so only left arch bridge columns. These days, it becomes a popular scenic spot.

The ruins of the Long-Teng bridge (龍騰斷橋) in Miaoli is a popular weekend tourism attraction for Taiwanese tourists. The bridge which was an important part of the now retired old western railline was destroyed during an earthquake in 1938 and then further damaged during the 921 earthquake in 1999. If you're one of the few people that are into broken bridges, this place is definitely for you.
