Josie didnāt believe that she had been lucky to survive the end of the world. In all honesty, she much preferred death. If she didnāt feel lonely before, she sure as hell felt it then. It felt like some cruel joke. She had been in just an ordinary basement. No windows, nothing but building above her. And somehow, even though the world came crumbling down, some beams bent in a peculiar shape and kept her alive. It had been an utter miracle that she had found a way out of the rubble. She had searched for survivors all night, only coming across bodies of foster family members and neighbors who had not been as āluckyā as her. As morning rose, she was exhausted, filthy, and desperate for the end. That isā¦until she heard a voice calling out. Weak from the ordeal, she stumbled across the remains of the city, eventually seeing the near pristine image of a boy about her age. And he saw her. Her hands trembled anxiously by her side. She wanted to break down and sob. She wanted to embrace the only other living person she had come across. But she stayed frozen in place. āJ-Josephine Chevalier.ā Her voice trembled among the ash as it fell around them like snow.

It wasnāt like he was suddenly prepared for an apocalypse of this nature, but he knew that survival was instinct, and with the Academy, he was probably more suited to overcome this than others who hadnāt been so lucky. He didnāt consider himself fortunate though, seeing as for a moment, he thought he was so utterly alone. This at least led him to the option of harboring some sort of fostered relationship, albeit, Five was akin to needing more of a solace than anything else āperhaps thatās why he got along with Vanya so well, her subdued quiet nature was a pleasantry that Five found comfortingā and he wondered if heād ever get a chance to go back. But for now, he had to stay in this new present, and as he saw the girl, he began towards her, first taking a few steps, before running at her in a new pace before looking over her, the debris and dirt telling him much more than he could describe. She got here the old fashioned way, by living through it.Ā āJosephine...ā He spoke like a true hero, trying to help situate in the moment as he had been taught to do well under that sort of stress. āIām...well Iām Five. Have you seen...anybody else around here?ā
