pick up a cheap starter kit online, if you go to yard sales or thrift stores you can find pretty cheap locks, if you wanna buy new ones be aware that there is a belt system like karate, make sure to buy locks that arent too difficult to start and work your way up.

i sometimes find myself getting mad at locks because i cant get my tools to work the right way and i am like "this lock sucks why the fuck is it like this? why cant i get it open" and then i remember locks are actually specifically designed to not be opened and that means its a good quality lock. i forgot that they are made for security and not as a fun little puzzle.
i am a completely normal person, its actually entirely regular for normal people to spend 1.5 hours picking locks to identify which specific ones are good for beginners so i can teach someone while on a date, 2 pounds of locks is a completely normal thing to bring on a date. i am regular.
im thinking of starting a gimmick blog, something like "lock-of-the-day" where i just post a random lock and talk about its features/vulnerabilities. the issue being i dont own a lot of locks and im not confident posting about locks i dont have experience with :b
last night i made a new friend, me and my girlfriend we walking around in the ice and stuff around her college(we are from texas so honestly just doing it for the novelty of seeing ice in the wild) when we saw a creek nearby was frozen, we sat and looked at it for a while then someone else came by and we talked for a little bit, then he was like "i wanna do an ice plunge" so he did that and we talked a while longer. turned out he had lockpicks he had gotten as a gift but never really used so we went to his dorm and compared our lockpicks. in the end he regifted them to me and we exchanged instagrams to stay in contact

i deadass forgot my blog was themed around lockpicking. i went to a lockpicking workshop and was like "i need to talk about this" and then didn't post about it here lol.
i showed off my tools and the professor who was teaching was like "oh i haven't actually used these before" and he tried them on a couple locks. at one point he was picking a lock and couldnt get good tension on it so i handed him one of my tension wrenches and he was like "oh this one actually works really well"
i left in a hurry and didn't even actually introduce myself to anyone but it was so much fun. i opened a couple really hard locks too (i dont usually concern myself with the belt rankings but i got a couple green belt locks open, which is higher than i thought i was :p )
reorganized my lockpicks just because :p
