ive lived in el paso for half a decade now, and its really nice here. most people are very kind, and its a common sentiment that its a big city with a small town vibe. theres about 700k people who live here, but id say it rises to 900k-1m people cause people cone over from juarez for work, school, etc; i have several people in my class who live in juarez. only down side is spanish is SO prevalent it can be hard to get jobs in some sects (like education) if you dont know it cause many parents dont know spanish so not knowing can lead to communication issues and thus a lower probability of getting hired. but again, people are so so sweet here. im a hijabi and when i was 12 i did some volunteer work at a food bank and a lady who didnt speak english came up to me and (after two unsuccessful attempts, my hearing is ass) lightly grabbed my hijab and said “muy bonita.” awesome people here and we have a (semi functioning if you dont count the recent explosion) bus system! but watch out for the Heat and Dust Storms they are a bitch.
