Felix Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 2 “Lobgesang” (Hymn of Praise) performance for the 2009 BBC Proms by the Hallé Orchestra, Manchester.
This is one of the great choral works of the orchestral repertoire. We performed this in 2013 and was following along in my score to this^^performance this AM...such memories! Reading an old score is like reading a diary. A standout movement is #5 “Ich harrete des Herrn” (timestamp in link) scored for soprano, mezzo, counterpoint horn, chorus, and orchestra. if you listen to nothing else, give this movement a try.
From Wikipedia: The Symphony No. 2 was written in 1840 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the invention of printing. The composer's description of the work was 'A Symphony-Cantata on Words of the Holy Bible, for Soloists, Chorus and Orchestra'. Structurally, it consists of three purely orchestral movements followed by 11 movements for chorus and/or soloists and orchestra, and lasts approximately 65--70 minutes in total.

Nearly anything by Mendelssohn...his music is like revitalizing mountain air, in the middle of a crazy world. Sadly, he’s not well known, and it’s even lesser known that he wrote a lot of beautiful Christian music. This piece is from his Lobgesang, or Hymn of Praise, which he wrote for the quadricentennial (yes, I looked that up) anniversary of the Gutenberg press. The words are adapted from Psalms 107 and 56; approximate interpretation (from Wiki):
Say it that you are redeemed by the Lord, He has delivered them out of trouble, of severe tribulation, from shame and bondage captives in the darkness, all which He hath redeemed from distress Say it! Give thanks to Him and praise ye, His goodness! He numbers our tears in our time of need, He comforts the afflicted with His Word. Say it! Give thanks to Him and praise ye His kindness.
