After spending half the day pacing up and down her hive agonizing over the decision placed rather firmly in her hands, Rossea had eventually sat down to think it over...and had dozed off. The lack of sleep had gotten to her and despite the sense of relief that weighed almost as much as the burden of fear she’d carried on her shoulders for years, she couldn’t get herself to punch in those numbers and just go. A feeling of regret washed over her each time she stepped closer to the transportalizer and her things, the pathetically small stack of stuff a reminder of why she was leaving and yet something held her back.
There was still so much she’d wanted to find out, so much left to uncover both in her own mind and about the cause of her world’s state. If she left now she might never be able to come back, but if she didn’t leave now she would be stuck here forever, and likely perish before she even found the answers she sought anyway.
It left her with troubled dreams that would eventually tear her from her unwanted sleep, leaving her shaken and unwilling to think about what she’d seen in her mind’s eye. It was time, she thought.
“No time like the present.” Her hands shook as she pulled on her boots, gathered the things she’d packed up earlier. A small box with clothes and a portable husktop she’d found that still worked, the hand-painted gift box, her palmhusk, the sack of miscellaneous ‘payment’ was tossed on the platform so she could grab up her rifle. Absolutely no reason to leave that behind. It was special.
With a shuddering breath Rossea typed in Jake’s coords, eyes closed when she hit the enter key. The rush of going from one place to another left her somewhat woozy, biolum flashing dully in rhythm with her fluttering heart.
She’d done it. She was free. She was in...a whole other completely unknown place.
“Thierry?” Her voice pitched up nervously and she remained rooted firmly to the transportalizer platform, “I, ah, I am arrived. Is this a convenient time?”
