five tasks down, and a question they were ignoring in hopes that mable would just forget the whole twenty tasks and they'll answer one question thing. taro came back to the pokemon lab with a bag they had specially bought for the research tasks--enough to hold the pokeballs of caught pokemon, but separate from their actual partners so that when they were done, they could just release them with no problem. taro didn't like catching pokemon just to keep them in a box all the time. they weren't learning anything from boxed pokemon.
this time, taro eight pokeballs in there--they didn't care if it was 'more than the legal amount'; they weren't battling with any of them in any meaningful way and who was going to arrest them? police that could never really catch them? it was fine. they didn't have a legitimate trainer card for a reason...or for a few reasons.
" okaayy, umm...i caught five alpha inkay and malamar. two alpha malamar from area twenty, and three alpha inkay from the sewers. i assume same species means i could catch from different evolution lines but umm...if that's not how it is, i can catch two more alpha inkay, the sewers are kinda full of them. "
taro pulled out five of the pokeballs; three of them had little stickers on them--probably the inkays--and the other two had no stickers.
" i took pictures of all of them, but i wasn't sure if you needed anything else before i released them. "
after setting the repeat balls down on an empty space on mable's desk--was there less space than usual? how busy could one lady be? it was kinda crazy to them just how much she seemed to be overworked, but they honestly didn't care too much. busy mable meant more research tasks for them, which meant more learning. either way, taro took out two more pokeballs; just plain pokeballs this time, and put those next to the repeat balls.
" i evolved an amaura and a tyrunt. i dunno if you need those, umm...i'm not actually sure where to put those, i don't wanna just box them, but releasing fossil pokemon feels irresponsible so i dunno. i also have pictures of those evolving and stuff. "
a little shrug, they had a kabuto back home in unova, but they weren't in a box...it didn't really feel right to box two pokemon after evolving them. they took out the final pokeball--another repeat ball, and set it next to the normal pokeball.
" and then umm...the amaura was a nighttime evolution, but i also evolved an eevee, just in case. into a umm...umbreon. i watched the sunset with the eevee before she evolved but mmh. i'm still not really sure what the point of that one was. eevee seemed happy, though, so that's nice. "
that was one thing they couldn't really benefit from, unfortunately. as much as they could fake the whole emotions thing, when it came to tasks like that they just had to phone it in, and hope it was enough to count. they sat there for a moment quietly, staring at the pokeballs, then nodded, pointing at one of the inkay repeat balls.
" i fed this one a quiet mint. and umm...i think that's it. was there anything else, that's all five tasks. "
