Nothing wrong with LizElle but it’s giving “I put White lesbian ships on a pedestal”. It’s really a choice to be shipping Elle with the only other queer White character. While ignoring the depth of a canon interracial lesbian relationship. I predict that LizBerly will be another overlooked ship…sadly. And it’s not to say only POC writers can or should write for LizBerly.
What about the fact that POC lesbians can imagine ourselves in thousands of “apolitical” White centric fics? But god forbid that an interracial lesbian ship doesn’t seem interesting…because it’s easy to reduce Kimberly to the “angry black woman” or “mean girl” trope. The point being that White lesbians relationships can just be “cute” and “golden retriever, black cat” vibes because they didn’t have to deal with racism.
