After having a few days where I have focused on my main brief I am now ready to start developing my sketch design work further for me to begin digitising my designs. 

My aim is to produce a very simple design which converts a clear message. I want to explore the use of how block colours and shapes can produce a scene along with the subtle addition of texture.

After having looked at previous submissions to the competition some designs are very elaborate whilst others are very simple. It was actually the simple designs that stood out for me. The designs are placed on shelves next to each other and with all these elaborate designs there were pockets of simple ones and it was these to me that stood out the most [in a good way].

Overview of the First Week

I am now nearing the end of the first week of the module and I feel I have made a good start to the new project. The week has been spent dissecting the brief for both the ‘Ways of Seeing’ and the ‘100% Optical’ competition. I have carried out research into the field of optometry and have researched the latest trends in eyewear.

I am now in the process of putting my ideas onto paper as I have also completed some research based around Appropriate Practitioners to gain inspiration on the world of visual merchandising as well as the work of current graphic communicators.

I have a few ideas of what I would like to do for the 100% Optical competition which has my full attention. I hope to complete the design stage by monday with in depth sketches and models to be made on tuesday for the final design I hope to submit. Next Wednesday will be spent adding the finishing elements to my proposal and compiling it all into a PDF presentation to present to my tutor group on thursday where I will be told if I am able to submit my design.

From that point onwards I will be focussing solely on further developing ideas and concepts for my Ways of Seeing brief and my ‘Isms’ typographic’ brief.
