How to Convert Your Current Email to a Microsoft Account

However, there are times where you want to use your current email (work or personal) associated with a Microsoft account. Here are the steps to convert your email address into a Microsoft Account

Go to https://login.live.com and click Create one

In the next page, make sure that the User name textbox is empty. Fill out the info requested and put your email into the User Name textbox. NOTE: Password DOES NOT NEED to be the same password you use for your actual email account.

After filling out the info and clicking Create Account, you will be receiving an email similar to the following to verify that the email address is yours.

구글 서비스 중단사태의 교훈 : “클라우드 맹신은 금물”

구글은 최근 벌어졌던 서비스 중단 사태에 대해 사과를 했다. 구글은 블로그 포스트를 통해 서비스 중단 사태가 아시아 지역 데이터센터의 단순 트래픽 정체에 의한 것이었다고 밝혔다. 세계 최대의 검색엔진 업체인 구글은 이번 사태를 엄청난 수의 비행기가 대규모 트래픽을 맞을 준비가 안된 공항에 착륙하도록 지정된 것에 비유했다. 하지만 이번 구글의 사태는 내릴 곳을 찾는 비행기가 문제가 아니었다. 문제는 하늘에서 머물 곳을 찾는 클라우드 기반의 데이터였다. 온라인 스토리지는 정말로 편리하다. 사진이나 비디오, 일정표, 문서 등을 다른 누군가의 하드디스크로 옮겨버리면, 자신의  스토리지 공간은 엄청난 여유를 즐길 수 있다. 더구나 자신의 데이터에 언제 어디서나 액세스할 수 있다는 편리함도 있다. 하지만 구름 속에서 춤추며 노니는 것이 항상 무지개 빛깔은 아니다. 왜냐하면 폭풍이 불 때가 있기 마련이기 때문이다. 대형 IT 업체들이 운영하던 데이터 스토리지 서비스 중 얼마나 많은 수가 문을 닫았는가를 생각해 보자. 결국 이런 사실은 지메일이나 구글 독스의 사용자에게 하드디스크에서 오래 된 영화나 히어로즈 시리즈 같은 것은 지워버리고 핵심 데이터만을 정리해서 클라우드가 아닌, 단단한 대지 위에 보관해야 한다는 것을 알려준다.
