sparring partners. ex-revenant liu and tomas have a lot of plot potential - we may never see the aged-up versions again, but i love them nonetheless

“I’ve never been to a movie before,” Liu Kang said as he looked up at the matinee board.

“Neither have I, this shall be fun!” Tomáš beamed at him.

“I have seen a few movies before, though. Lord Fujin was a fan of a few, admittedly he is also a fan of Johnny Cage’s movies. He used to have this old and rather large TV set with tapes, Kung Lao and me used to get to watch them if he could sneak us away from training,” Liu Kang said as he and Tomáš followed after the kombat kids, helpfully paying for their date as well as providing transportation. All in their ‘crusade to get the OG squad out and enjoying life because a bunch of workaholic 40-60+ years olds was sad’.

“Must have been strange seeing Johnny for the first time in the tournament,” Tomáš said.

“I didn’t even recognize him at first!” Liu Kang chuckled, taking the offered ticket stub from young Jacqui and following the group inside. “Turns out that with lighting and makeup, someone can look completely different. Also he was fresh out of a party and was wearing a rather undone tuxedo… and I will admit, I did not recognize him with a shirt on.”

Tomáš laughed, making Liu Kang laugh with him.

To ‘give them some privacy’ the kombat kids were going to a different movie than them that was about the same time and length. They wished the two of them fun and Liu Kang and Tomáš entered the already darkened room of the showing room. The picked seats up in the far corner to give themselves some space and sank into the chairs.

“Not very comfortable…” Liu Kang muttered.

“I think that’s just because we’re old, love,” Tomáš chuckled back softly.

“Hush you.”

The movie was some rather, wonderfully terrible science fiction movie about humans fighting against a hostile space creatures. Liu Kang made a note to thank the kombat kids for picking a movie that would not be upsetting given Tomáš and his own traumatic history with demons, mortal kombat, and creatures of Outworld. It was just the two of them, some very odd looking space creatures, some really bad lines, and sitting close together in a dark room for three hours.

At some point during the movie, Tomáš leaned over and rested his head on Liu Kang’s shoulder. About the midway point, Liu Kang took Tomáš’ hand and intertwined their fingers together. And they sat like that through the rest of the movie, with a rather obvious cliffhanger of an ending, but waited until the few other movie goers rose and left before getting up themselves.

“Ow,” Tomáš muttered as he stood straight and something creaked and cracked inside of him.

“Something, something, ‘we’re getting old’,” Liu Kang snickered.

“Hush,” Tomáš laughed.

They found the kombat kids outside waiting for them, still holding hands because they were loathe to part.

“Have fun?” Jin asked.

“How strange, I always thought that your eyes being red was a myth,” Tomáš said as he gently held Liu Kang’s face in his hands, thumbs rubbing along Liu Kang’s cheeks.

Right now, Tomáš was examining Liu Kang’s features, but mostly he was looking at Liu Kang’s vampiric features. He had never really mentioned them, spoken about them, or looked closely at them before. But lately he had felt that Liu Kang and himself had gotten close enough to ask about it. And he was surprised by how open Liu Kang was about it, thought blamed popular media for giving him an apparent misrepresentation of vampires being tortured and tormented beings.

“Yes, though Lord Raiden did teach glamor, I could hide it behind brown eyes,” Liu Kang said.

“Hmm… it still strange to think that you have these other talents on top of your other skills in kombat as well as your pyromancer skills,” Tomáš hummed before leaning down to kiss the space between Liu Kang’s eyebrows.

“I am full of many surprises,” Liu Kang beamed, lips opening wide enough for Tomáš to see the infamous fangs.

“The teeth… may I touch them?” Tomáš asked.

“You may, but please be mindful of the tips,” Liu Kang said, “They’re like needles and can be quite painful.”

Tomáš was not versed in vampire anatomy, despite having fought alongside the vampiric White Lotus numerous times. Running his hands along Liu Kang’s jaw made him realize that the muscular setup was different than what a human’s jaw was, though admittedly not terribly much. The muscles around the jaw hinge felt like they were more… well more. Thicker and a bit more like cords of muscle.

The gums were also different, when Liu Kang parted his lips as well, the gums notably thicker around the eye teeth that hardly seemed longer or sharper than anyone’s canines. When the tip of his finger grazed the rise of gum, the fang pushed down just slightly, confirming Tomáš’ suspicion that the real length of the man’s fangs were in the gums and only came out when pressure was applied such as biting.

“How fascinating,” Tomáš said, leaving the man’s mouth alone.

“Really?” Liu Kang asked, managing to sound equal parts amused and genuine.

“Truely, my sweet,” Tomáš grinned, kissing the space between his eyebrows again. “You have talons as well?”

“Ah, sorry, I trim those so I can easily make a fist,” Liu Kang said, holding up his hand for Tomáš to examine closely.

His nails were trimmed close to the fingertip, smoothed down as well and notably thicker than human nails. There was also no pink or white like human nails either, it was a color closer to teeth actually, though it made a bit of sense given how thick they were and given how they were likely used for slashing and cutting.

“Still, you are a marvel, my dear,” Tomáš smiled, bringing Liu Kang’s hands up to his mouth to kiss the scarred and burn scar marked knuckles, making Liu Kang blush softly.

“So are you,” Liu Kang smiled, flustered.

Early morning started with early morning stretches and exercises.

Neither of them were kombatants anymore. Age sought to that, not to mention the hell that they had endured as being the undead for so long. But they still needed to keep their bodies well functioning. So they still had to do stretches and workout as well. Besides, old habits from their youthful days as Earthrealm’s champion kombatants were hard to break.

They did a few on their own, stretching limbs and such, bending and twisting to warm joints up. There were a few stretches that they helped each other with, holding something in place so that they could fully stretch, helping the other bend a certain way. Gentle things like that.

After that was the first round of exercises. Gentle things to start the morning off, like jogging and then running. Sit-ups, push-ups, a few pull-ups. When they both had a good sweat going, they did some cool down jogging and then washed up for the morning.

After that was the morning meal. Since Liu Kang had stayed the night with Tomáš, they both ate with the Lin Kuei students. They both talked idly for a bit, still a bit groggy from the early morning hours. Tomáš did lean against Liu Kang’s shoulder and snuggled close while Liu Kang just chuckled at him.

After the morning meal, Tomáš had teaching to do. Since he was a vetern, all things considering, Kuai Liang had him teach the students during parts of the day. For the most part, Liu Kang watched and generally read something. For the most part he liked to watch Tomáš teach. There was just something so… mesmerizing about it. Liu kang had no idea if it was the man’s gentle voice, or how smoke trailed after his limbs but… he always found it hard to look away from Tomáš when he was teaching. But he also watched because Tomáš sometimes call upon Liu Kang to aid him teach throws, reversals or holds, knowing that they could work well enough to demonstrate it in a clear and concise way. (Also avoid anyone potentially reacting naturally and throwing Tomáš to the cold floor by accident.)

After some training and some more exercises, it was the lighter afternoon meal. They would always talk a bit more lively since they had the time to wake up. Often they would sit with Kuai Liang so that Tomáš and him could speak about the student’s progress. Sometimes they would sit by themselves. Regardless, Tomáš always liked to press a firm kiss to Liu Kang’s cheek, making them both smile and blush.

After that they would normally alternate between studying and more training. The Lin Kuei were especially taught by their fretful grandmaster, that history was important to learn and grow from, so they often studied past feuds and wars and what started and resolved or settled them. Tomáš would sometimes overlook them, make sure that they were actually studying. Sometimes he could get away to sit and read with Liu Kang, who often found something fascinating to read in the Lin Kuei library.

After that would be the evening meal and meditation right after. A generally quiet affair was most everyone would be tired by that time of day, ready to settle in for evening meditation and then some much earned rest. They would talk a little, also a bit tired from the day. They would finish up meditation and then head back for some much needed personal time together.

“Would you like a bath?”

“Yes, please.”

They both relaxed in the warm water, curled up together.

“...Your hair is almost as silver as mine,” Tomáš chuckled, coiling a lock of Liu Kang’s hair around his finger.

“That’s not fair, you’ve always had silver hair,” Liu Kang chuckled back.

“Mm, true. But I like yours on you,” Tomáš sighed contently, snuggling closer to Liu Kang.

“And yours is still gorgeous, my dear,” Liu Kang sighed happily, kissing the top of Tomáš’ head.
