Well, President Carter’s post-Presidency is the longest in history and he’s still going strong -- on January 20th (just a reminder to mark your calendars because that’s my birthday), he will have been out of the White House for 37 years. Carter left office on my 1st birthday and I’m old enough to actually be President now. It’s a pretty remarkable life after leaving office. It’s not even accurate to call it “retirement” because Carter has arguably done more since leaving office than he ever did while in the White House. In fact, even President Carter himself has said on many occasions that he’s been a much better ex-President than he was as President.

Thanks for being super thoughtful though, like, helping people learn about the world!

sadly i have not read the speech having not taken reserve’s APUSH, but thanks a lot! things i need to read: this speech and your senior thesis (which is in an old viewpoints i have lying around)

gotcha! Yeah, take a look at it; I'm more for a document-centered way of teaching history anyway, which the AP way of teaching completely fails to make space for. (I have a lot of feelings about the way we teach history, and esp. the way AP classes force us to teach history.) 

it’s mostly personal, tbh; like the imperialist thing, absolutely, but it more has to do with his whole masculine persona thing?

like he changes the shape of desirable American masculinity, and it’s such a poisonous, awful thing. like masculinity in general is pretty awful but the way TR influences the popular image of American masculinity is just like awful. 

His support for unions I appreciate, but that cultural impact really strengthens and encourages ableism and again just… ugh masculinity.  and just like ugh TR.
