Reading update - The girl in the spider's web
It was going to be very difficult to continue the legacy of Stieg Larrson and to live up to the expectations of the fandom of Lisbeth Slander.
Kudos to David Lagercrantz for almost living up to this unrealistic expectation.
The book is gripping, the story is intricate and the characters are unpredictable. The new characters introduced in the book meddled in beautifully and the continuation of Lisbeth’s story is imaginative. It’s not a mere repeat of the excerpts from first three books, but her story has been built further, adding more definition to the life of Lisbeth Slander.
On the other hand, there are times in the book where the Slander seems to have been romanticized and the fact that the author is a fan becomes apparent. The solutions to the mysteries suddenly get very simple because Slander can do no wrong.
Overall a brilliant read and highly recommended for the fans of the series.
Slander is one of the strongest female literary characters of our times and it’s an exciting prospect that we may get to read more of her.
