thinking about lisa saying she loves her sister but wouldn't bring her sister back from the dead. as someone with siblings, that's a skill issue on lisa's part.
When I first watched this, I was 200% sure Lisa would be forced to answer the real question, "What about Ben?"
But they never followed through on that! Even though Ben and Sam are specifically paralleled with shots like this:
BEN IS LISA'S burden. She longs for the road, freedom, her past. The resentment co-exists with the love:
DEMON!LISA TO BEN (as a theme): Who knows who your real dad is, kid? Your mom's a slut ... [Her worst mistake was] keeping you. [...]You know she's begging me to kill you. She says you hold her back. Never had a lick of fun since you were born.
And yes, this echoes how Zachariah speaks to Dean re: Mary, And how AW Michael speaks to Jack... re: Dean.
Alas.
And also, I've said this before, but Jody Mills turns out to be a wonderful foil to this whole idea. I think we'd all like to think we'd do the "right" thing under pressure, the thing that aligns with our morals. But the thing is, we never actually know until that moment, do we? This is also something that brings a lot of power to the Mary-Dean interaction in Who We Are
I get it. Because I've made deals to save ones I love.
Unlike Lisa, Dean isn't coming from a place of judgment but experience, understanding, and love.
There's a certain wisdom that Dean, Mary, and Jody carry that separates them from civilians. Knowing that it's like to be in these impossible situations.
