OC Story Time - How TF Did We Get Here
Funnily enough, all this started out as a cosplay project.
My sis and I like to work on cosplay projects for our local/regional cons and for the LONGEST time I have wanted to put together a Warhammer 40K cosplay for the last three to four years back when I first started getting into the fandom with games like Inquisitor: Martyr and Darktide.
Somewhere in the middle, Rogue Trader finally released and I checked it out back on Game Pass when I still gamed mainly on console - and boooy howdy I was LOCKED TF IN. Around that time I started altering some of my cosplay design elements, moving away from archetypes like Commissar Sebastian Yarrick (definite inspiration for Prisca) and trying to find what my Commissar would be like.
This past spring our local con (MEPACON if any of y'all are within driving distance of Northeast Pennsylvania, its a great con) announced the next cosplay theme for fall would be outer space. I took one look at my sis, looked at all the ground work we started for the Commissar, and started ramping up production.
Production led to character creation. It was only supposed to be a basic backstory to help get my head into the character for more design work...then I kinda just...didn't stop writing. The writing then led to sketching, and the sketching turned back to more writing, and now Prisca von Valancius is almost fully actualized both on paper and now in our own three dimensional space.
The whole process has been life changing for me as of yet, because this sudden explosion of creativity is the first time in literally twenty freaking years that I have written anything of creative length. Now my half page character study is sitting at over 30,000 words and is still going.
I don't know what happened, or why it happened, but I'm glad it happened. Feels nice being able to make things again, even if I screw it up a little on the way. So whenever I say that I'm super thankful for all y'alls support, I freakin' mean it <3
Anywho, here is a material test my sis and I tried out today to make some skull accessories for my Commissar greatcoat. We tried out foam clay earlier this week and here are the results of our liquid plastic tests. We used silicone molds we got off amazon and I have to say, really like how the liquid plastic skulls turned out.
