You know, I didn't really think much about it beyond the idea that Lin was going there to spend time with him, but maybe it was a visit to his hometown (on the same island as Fire Fountain!)
In the ~future~ I think they try to visit one another back to back, so that was sort the background, ie; Kaz goes to Republic City when Parliament is in recess and when it's time to go back to work, Lin takes time off and returns with him for an equal amount of time.

I'm currently rereading SoC, so I'm back in my Kaz obsession, naturally.
And it got me wondering... does Lin ever tell Kaz to stfu?
For instance, imagine she's really exhausted and just wants to go to bed or have a little quiet time. Meanwhile, Kaz just canNOT stop talking about something that is completely insignificant to her.
i was wondering 1. Does this ever happen?
2. If it does, how would Lin deal with it?
and 3. And how would Kazuo react?
I think the obvious assumption would be that she'd just cut him off with an "Oh my god, shut up!" But especially early in their relationship, I actually imagine she'd have a hard time telling him to stop talking at all. She seems like she'd just quietly endure it because she wouldn't want to hurt his feelings, even if she was running on empty.
I don't know if you've ever touched on this before, but I was curious what your take on it would be. :)

Oddly, I don’t think I’ve really touched on this in the past! Because yes, this is absolutely something that has happened, though I haven’t written it out explicitly! After all, he is a yapper and she is a snapper lmao.
I agree that Lin would be gentler about it in the early days, but still come across irritated enough that he would take the hint. I actually think the first time she snapped at him over this he would get offended and she would have to apologize lol
And yes, I say first time bc this is something I imagine crops up from time to time even when it’s addressed by them both and they both agree to be more mindful. Old habits and all that.
I’m setting myself a reminder for Monday to post at least a snippet! Lin will always love Tenzin, of course, but it’s different as time goes on, more sentimental than anything else.

Since you’ve been answering a lot of Kaz asks lately, I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon too lol
I recently re-read Gone, Not Forgotten (its on my heartbreak rotation fic don’t @ me) and I paid slightly closer attention to it— Lin opens up about Kaz to Bumi??? Her last most meaningful relationship??
With this knowledge, and seeing as Bumi retires right after + Kaz comes back to RC, how does this go about? Does it ever come up in conversation? When Tenzin vents about Kaz at home, does Bumi have an evil grin like “ofc you don’t like him”? Does Kaz know that Lin told Tenzin’s brother about them? (You know when the mail finds her at Kaz’s place and he’s like it’s okay if you told someone). Or has Lin not mentioned Kaz by name to Bumi so Bumi at some point has a notepad and pen, fully sherlocked with Bumju at the council chambers to see at the sight of whom Chief Beifong’s heart beats a little more affectionately.
This has opened up the floor for so much for me haha

So, I wrote that fic when I was still ironing out the details for Lin and Kaz, so I think my intentions then aren’t exactly the same ‘canon’ as my intentions now but I’ll break it down both ways-
I think originally it would have been a situation where Bumi is grinning and saying ‘ofc you don’t like him 😈’ but as it stands I’m glad I left it a little vague because for it to align with Spirit of Change it would make more sense if he knew *something* but didn’t have a name and was fully Sherlocked with Bumju lmaooooo
In either situation I think Lin saying it was her most meaningful relationship since Tenzin would have been a sarcastic comment from her since in either timeline it was just casual hookups at that point!
Anyway now I’m loving the idea of Bumi and Bumju on a side quest about who this could be and driving Lin insane tryin to get info about it from her at the worst possible time hahahah

Breathing hard and grinning like a fool, Lin covered her face with one hand. If her pale skin hadn’t already been flushed from exertion she would have most certainly been blushing from the giddiness the bubbled from inside as Kaz rolled off her with a satisfied sigh. He lay down beside her, stretching one arm out to rest along her stomach, which trembled with the threat of laughter.
Kaz glanced at his shaking hand and back up at Lin’s covered face, “What?”
And then it came, like a wave cresting over the shore of her mouth- a case of giggles she hadn’t experienced in living memory. The laughter bubbled from her mouth- a breathy note that reached a silent peak as she continued to shake.
Kaz propped himself up on one elbow, watching her face redden with each passing moment, “What? What are you laughing about?”
Lin shook her head, indicating her ignorance at the source of her sudden fit, pressing her hand against eyes that began losing tears at either side.
“What is so funny?” Kazuo asked again with chuckle, coming down with her same affliction.
After a few heaving gasps of air she managed to choke out a strangled, “I don’t know” before devolving back into laughter. With nothing else to go on, Kazuo wrapped his arms around her tightly, burying his face in her neck, laughing right alongside as they rode out the storm together.
The act of catching her breath was a slow one, filled with lamentations of “oh my stomach hurts” and recurrences of the giggles, but eventually she wiped her eyes on last time and laid her hands at her side.
“Okay…” she breathed tentatively.
“Okay?” Kaz repeated, daring to look her in the eye, “what was that?”
Lin shrugged her shoulders; smile dangerously large, “I have no idea-“
“Because,” Kaz interrupted, “one of my fantasies is to have a woman laugh hysterically after having sex with me, so thanks. That was good.”
Lin shook her head, giggling lightly, “No, it’s not like that.” Her hand reached up to cup the side of face delicately, “I think…I think I’m just happy.”
Her words were honest, perhaps a little more honest than she meant to convey and her hand dropped quickly to her side.
