I regret to inform you that I cannot, in good conscience, accept your proposal. To be your personal knight would be a blessing beyond belief, but I cannot live in Hyrule any longer. More accurately, I cannot thrive in Hyrule any longer. Everywhere I go, every corner I turn, I am met with people who see someone I am not. I cannot escape the myth of the man I am not.
I never wanted to be a hero. All I ever wanted, my heart’s truest desire, was to simply be… just a girl. Sometimes I imagine myself as a bunny, carefree and frolicking. Hopping here and there, chewing on a clover or two. I know that the rabbit has fears and worries. That it wouldn’t be an easier life. The bunny doesn’t have a heroic legacy. The bunny’s just that, a bunny. I wish I could be just me, a woman.
When I went to wake the wind fish, I hesitated. A part of me didn’t want to lose this island life, because… because if I did, would I ever find another place that I could start totally unknown. That I could be whoever I want, that I didn’t have to be the hero. A place where I’m not known as the boy who saved Hyrule.
Which is why I have decided to leave. By the time you read this letter I have already set sail in search of somewhere new. Somewhere with forests and trees, somewhere with people who don’t know me. Somewhere I can be the woman I am.
