We all have someone we look up to. We all have that one person that inspires us. I'm not necessarily talking about a family member, although there is nothing wrong with that. I value my family and friends, and I look to them for guidance in different areas of my life. However, in my literary endeavors, I will always look to Ms. Beatrix Potter.
As I've grown as a writer, I have continued to look to her life, her struggles, her pride, and her wisdom. She always knew what she wanted, and she went after it. She always fought back. The eldest Warne brothers laughed at her, but that soon changed when the rest of the world saw her promise.
We all know the legacy Beatrix left with her "little books," but her legacy continues in the land. With all the proceeds from her books, she helped keep a large part of the Lake District alive and free. She became a sheep farmer(the men laughed at her as well), and helped the land to flourish. When she and her husband died, they left three farms and the solicitors office to the National Trust, preserving it forever.
She was a tough, stubborn, wise, awesome woman, and I will always look to her for strength in my own endeavors. Also, when I look at that picture of her, she has this look in her eyes that just bores into me. It's like those different meme's asking you if you should be writing.
She doesn't have to say anything to me. I know.
There are various books on Beatrix Potter. I've always liked Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature by Linda Lear (great biography) and At Home with Beatrix Potter by Susan Denyer. The photos are beautiful. Also, Susan Wittig Albert has a wonderful cozy mystery series featuring Ms. Potter.
Also, if you haven't seen Miss Potter, it's a really cute movie starring Renée Zellweger as Beatrix Potter.
