June 2023 Patreon Previews
Here is the end of month summary for June! :)
WIBAR What-If: Remus & Patton (2)
preview:
Remus woke up, which was favorable for the whole ‘continued living’ thing, but disappointing in that his epitaph wasn’t going to be ‘killed by a weird space furby’.
Not that he’d have a gravestone to put it on. Or anyone to carve it in for him. It was still pretty funny.
Really, since he hadn’t died yet, he should take the opportunity to paint his own gravestone on the wall, so that the next poor human schmuck they put in this cell could appreciate how hilarious he was pre-mortem.
(And maybe they could jot down his name for anyone back on Earth that wanted some closure, too. Presuming that the next theoretical human didn’t also kick the bucket.)

mere monstrosity (4)
preview:
Roman reeled back as the hand slammed down in front of him.
Like a campfire doused by a bucket of icewater, his fury was entirely flattened by the bone-chilling realization that he was facing not one, but two humans, far away from the walls, any possible escape, or his brother.
Oh, god. Remus.
He might have still been alive back there, there might have been something that could have been done to help him, and Roman would never know because he’d let his anger overtake his sense. Now, dead or alive, he wouldn’t ever get to see his brother again.

to know that song (and all its words) (9)
preview:
The dread set in as soon as Virgil dragged himself back to consciousness.
Even before he really knew what was going on, the sensation weighed heavy on him. His memories of the past three cycles were smeared into vague undefined blur, like a sand sculpture lapped at by seafoam, but the moment he opened his eyes, a distinct sense of foreboding curled up in his lungs and refused to leave.
The strangest part was that nobody else seemed to feel the suffocating weight of it.

not always what they seem (5)
preview:
Their captors were up to something.
Janus studied the far side of the room with narrowed eyes, ignoring the pulsing headache that had slowly been developing over the past few hours.
By all accounts, he should have woken one of the others up for a watch shift far before now. Instead, he’d seated himself behind them and watched the aliens unerringly.
A large part of his job required him to observe people. The way someone moved and gestured and reacted physically while conversing with others gave away more than most knew, and Janus was well-practiced in the art. He could read practically anyone like a book.
These creatures might have been from an entirely different library, so to speak, but he’d never let something like that stop him before.
