Serious question. If I make someone feel stupid wrt Homestuck, Iām inclined to believe Iāve done something wrong, because thatās not what Iām here to do. This comic is overwrought and complicated and intricately woven, Iām just trying to make it easier for people like you (and I! Iām always learning more about the comic as I talk about it w/ other people) to parse.
it took me like seven years to feel like i even halfway understand this particular relationship and i still feel like iām missing stuff wrt most of the comic, so I guess all Iām trying to say isā¦donāt worry bro? youāre good.
Anyway, the proof is brain ghost dirk.
Dirk isnāt actually present for the Game Over timelineās events. We see him before Brain Ghost Dirk becomes real, talking to Arquis and trying to find out whatās going on.
And then we see him talking to John, when heās witnessing the failure of the Alpha Sessionāand taking it as his personal failure.
The key point here is Dirk never shows any indication of being aware of Brain Ghost Dirk, even though in his last pesterlog before BGDās appearanceĀ heās trying to understand whats happening in the session and clearly wants to help however he can. It doesnāt make any sense to link Dirkās agency to Brain Ghost Dirkās here.
Which is important, since it means Brain Ghost Dirk is a product of Jakeās agency, including this line about Jake being his boyfriend. And this is after Dirk breaks up with him, implying Jake still thinks of Dirk that way, or still hopes they can get together.
It helps that āI am [Name], you [Verbed] my [Loved one], Prepare to dieā is a pretty clear reference to The Princess Bride, a movie all about the pure power of love overcoming all obstacles so long as you believe in it. Iāve written about its relevance to reading Dirkjake before, though I wanna do better by the link someday:
This line is a movie reference to The Princess Bride, a romantic fantasy adventure comedy with a very curious dynamic between the romantic leads.
No shortage of people have pointed out how Jake seems to see himself as or end up in the positions of sexualized and marginalized female protagonists, but I think thereās a cause to be made Jakeās āarcā draws from this specific oneāButtercupāabove all others. Buttercupās romantic dynamic with Westley is simple: She issues requests to him, and he responds āAs you Wish.ā
This As you Wish is an explicit I love you, and the power of love is put forth as the source of Westleyās power and endless competence and ability throughout the entire story. It doesnāt matter what needs to happen, Westley finds a way to do it. And he does it because he believes in their love.
Buttercup, however, struggles to hold on to her faith that love can overcome all things possible and wavers in her commitment to living for it, ending up nearly trapped in an unwanted marriage. Buttercupsā arc is resolved when she chooses to believe in love even at risk of dying, promising never again to hide what she truly desiresāWestley.
Jake perceives Dirk as his Prince Charming, an idea that could also be described as a Knight in Shining Armor.

I'm sorry. I know I ask questions all the time but I really want to know. When Jake had to kiss Dirk's head and he said "I guess if It was going to go this way. there was stuff I wanted to say, to the real him I mean" what do you think he wanted to say? This is probably a stupid question but If It's not please tell me what you think (btw if you think Im getting annoying with the whole "i hope i dont embarrass mysel" thing just tell me and I'll try to stop worrying so much)
Hard to say! Probably Jake would have questions and a lot of conflicting emotions. These are all things Jake could reasonably want to talk about around that point:
-Stuff about how grateful Jake is for Dirkās help over the years
-Venting his frustrations about the AR
-Wanting to apologize or at least talk about the jokes he made about Dirk only being a good fit for him if he was a girl, which Jake was aware coulda messed with Dirkās feelings
-Wanting to make sure Dirk even actually likes him, since Jake mentions heās not even sure about that half the time and later complains to Jane that Dirk canāt ever seem to just relax and enjoy his company
-Any combination of the above.
In the end it seems he talked about none of it while they were dating. Seems likely they sorted things out by the time of the Masterpiece, though.

i dont talk about it much but a homestuck anime is one of the few things weird and unexpected enough i can imagine when i wonder what hussie meant when he said he wanted to do something āunexpectedā and āoutside the confines of the comicā with VIZ media.
iāve said it before: homestuckās story is not over. i think its pretty likely the epilogue at least will contain major elements of dirkjake and vrisrezi--probably dirkjake, definitely vrisrezi--and i am not convinced weāll never see these characters again past that.
i donāt like to speculate this āwildlyā about homestuckās events, i just also donāt consider the somewhat cynical view that the adventure is well and truly āoverā to be fact. seems to me its all speculation.

my opinion is that heās a thief of blood, probably being forced into roleplaying a Knight (by way of butlering) to some extent, and ghosting āBreathā either as a result of that stress, the influence of the Breath-coded Bronze caste, or both.
so Thief of Blood->Knight of Breath, with the latter being unhealthy behavior heās forced into. because of that influence, heās taken at least one notable action that comes off like a Thief of Breath and Blood, simultaneously.
That would be the theft of Xefrosā hoverboard. Dammek takes Xefrosā stuff because Xefros lets him, and Xefros lets him either because theyāre moirails or because of Xefrosā feelings for him. Either way, Dammek is stealing through the strength of their relationshipāstealing through Blood.
But the hoverboard itself is a distinctly Breath item. It flies, it allows for motion and freedom, it advances the plot, and the laser it emits is distinctly Breath blue. Which means Dammek is stealing Breath.
Blood is how he actually achieves the theftāfitting, since itās his natural strength. But Breath is what heās choosing to steal, and imo that speaks to Dammekās likely unhealthy state of mind and skewed priorities/self-image.

i dunno that i can suggest how youāll start liking it cause not every ship is for everyone and thats fine. i can say i think rosemary, like every canon homestuck ship, is as profound and well-written as davekat, dirkjake, or w.e other ship i talk about.

Hey, is it okay if all my questions are about dirkjake? I don't want you to feel like you're wasting your time by answeing my stupid questions. I'm just always worried that it's not canon or that they just want the fans to believe that it's canon or that Jake is asexual or something like that. And I don't want people to think that I'm an annoying cringey fangirl. But theres a lot of things that still bother me sorry I'm just slow.
