everything i hear about the making of evil dead just tells me sam raimi is the ultimate sadist to bruce campbell's ultimate masochist
Stick-and-poke I did on myself!!! It was way less painful than my other tattoos and we were very safe and clean with all the materials. It's a little chunky but it's supposed to be a frog sipping a milkshake, or perhaps enjoying boba tea. I love it!!!
could you give us a few examples from movies/books of the deaths that you liked and the deaths that you didn't like?
okay, let’s see here. I’m gonna go mostly through the “all my faves are dead” deaths because otherwise it’s just too broad. also for obvious reasons: here be #spoilers for just about everything, so, like. be aware of that
including: Lymond Chronicles, Black Sails, A Song of Ice and Fire, the MCU, BBC Merlin, Wheel of Time, Angel, The Silmarillion, and Malazan: Book of the Fallen.
when it comes to deaths that I liked (for a given value of “liked” as in “thought were effective, upsetting but didn’t make me angry on a narrative level”) - I think of Anomander Rake, Maeglin, basically every Feanorian (basically everyone who dies in the Silmarillion, really). Erik Killmonger, actually - I love him and I would’ve liked to see more of him, and I will read all of the fix-it fic where he lives, but his death worked for me. Robb Stark is another one where, while it was/is intensely upsetting to me that he died, it doesn’t make me angry that he did. Light Yagami’s death at the end of Death Note.
Charles Vane in Black Sails; while I’m mad about it on some level, it was also really well done and certainly effective.
actually, even (to a certain extent) Morgana in BBC Merlin - while overall her character got shafted in a lot of ways, I don’t actually think her death was a bad move. I just wish the way they’d gotten there, and the way her face turn had been written, had been done better.
deaths I didn’t like - the one I’ve been loudest about for the past year has been Loki, obviously, and also Gamora. Since it came up recently I’m also putting Marthe in this category, and I maintain that Egwene was also thoroughly unnecessary. Fred and Cordelia in Angel. I don’t feel great about Eleanor in Black Sails, though I can live with hers better than I would expect.
and I mean, any instance of fridging, pretty much. that’s always going to piss me off.
*posts selfies for the meetup but instantly regrets it and deletes the post 5 mins later*
