14: Do you miss someone?

“Everyone misses someone or other, don’t they? I miss my grandparents who passed when I was young. My childhood neighbor who I have the fondest memories with. My first cat. I miss a lot of people.”

“…Yes.” (No doubt something Luna talked him into somewhere lmao)

19: Would you go back in time if you were given the chance?

“Whatever for? The odds of me altering the continuum and destroying my wonderful life as I know it now would be high. No thank you, I am fine just as things are.”

27: Have you ever broken someone’s heart?

Damien chuckles softly, “Not since high school, no. And I’m sure she’s doing just fine now.”

34: Who/what was your last dream about?

“My wife. And that’s all I care to say on the matter, thank you very much.”

35: Who was the last person you cried in front of?

“My sister. She’s the one who delivered the news to me about my father’s passing so…it was rather emotional.”37: Is it easier to forgive or forget?

“Forgive, of course. Simply forgetting will eat you alive at some point or another, trust me.”

51: Favourite food?

“I do love sushi. I also love vindaloo. This is a hard choice for me, I love to eat and I love to explore. Come back to this one later.”

62: What makes you happy?

“Everything. Oh my, there are so many things to be happy about. The sun, daffodils, my boy, our dogs. My son running through the daffodils in the sun with the dogs. It’s all wonderful. Luna makes me happy. Certain parts of her family make me happy. My family makes me happy. My work, my books, my students, it all makes me happy. There is quite a lot on this earth to appreciate and be happy for.”

70: Is there anyone you would die for?

30: What’s irritating you right now?

Jet lag. I’ve had to work in four different time zones in the past week and it’s absolutely demolished any semblance of a sleep schedule in my life. 

35: Who was the last person you cried in front of?

My brother. It’s a little embarrassing, really. We were mountain biking together last summer when I hit a rock and flew right off my bike. My back went into a nearby tree and honestly knocked the wind out of me so intensely my body just immediately let a few go. I think it scared Ole more than me, I don’t think he’d ever seen me cry before. 

37: Is it easier to forgive or forget?

Forget. No use in holding on to what can never be changed. There’s much life to live, many things to see and do untethered from the worries of being wronged. 

39: How old were you when you had your first kiss?

Ovey laughs. Eight technically. Don’t worry about it.

51: Favourite food?

It really is a once in a blue moon treat but I’m a sucker for well-prepared sannakji, I really do enjoy it. 

53: What is the last thing you did before you went to bed last night?

Watched a bit of tv before I fell asleep. My grasp on Somali isn’t the best so I kept it on the native channels to brush up a little. 

57: Do you believe in true love?

I believe it’s possible to love someone truly and unconditionally, yes. I don’t know if I would be able to achieve it at any point or if another human could coax me into it. But I believe it’s real, yes.

58: Favourite weather?

I do enjoy the snow. Not while it’s coming down, rather when the world is entirely still following a blizzard. I think that’s the best time to be out, when it’s dead silent and there’s fresh snow on the ground, no wind, nothing. Just you and the post-apocalyptic wasteland before you. 

62: What makes you happy?

Knowing my work, the risks I take and the journeys I make are making a profound difference in the lives of at least a few. If I can alter the course of how even handfuls of people’s lives go with my work then I am a hundred percent satisfied. I genuinely believe the world can be a better place and I want to help it get there.
