If you would, can you do headcanons with Light with Kira??? Like, not relationship wise, but just like light before death note interacting with light(Kira) when he gets the death note? I’ve always thought it would be cool to hear about a human embodiment of Kira interacting with Light.
That’s a cool idea! I love the contrast between them as well. I’ll try, and I’ll just refer to them as Light and Kira to keep it simple.
LIGHT MEETING KIRA:
-Both of them would probably respect each other a lot. They’d think each other had good taste and ideals and goals and were easy to talk to. They might even play tennis together, lmao. I think they might view each other similarly to how Light saw Mikami when he chose him as his third Kira: somebody dependable and serious and hardworking with similar morals and intelligence and ambitions.
- they’d both be charismatic and polite, so their initial interactions would probably be smooth and very pleasant. They’d also both be incredibly observant and quick to pick up little cues about each other, tucking them away for later use. I think Light was equally as capable as Kira of being manipulative when he was innocent, but he didn’t have the same anonymous power or crazy godhood ambitions. He probably just used his social intelligence more to be popular and fit in than for anything underhanded or malicious when he didn’t have the Death Note.
-However, Light had very strong morals and ideals about how to treat other people (or saw himself as someone who did), whereas Kira would do anything to anyone as long as it helped him achieve his goals, so it would be interesting if Kira ever decided he needed to manipulate Light for some reason. I’m not sure if Light would sense that there was possibly something shady about Kira, because Kira was extremely good at hiding his darker side, but I guess you could trust Light of all people to pick up on it if anyone could? Haha, nothing really ever slipped by him even when innocent. I’m sure they’d compete like crazy if they were both going after the same goal, and get annoyed but also motivated by the other one being so equally good at everything.
- Kira actually did sometimes think about Light and vice versa in canon, and though Light condemned Kira’s murderous actions as wrong, he always admitted that their ideals lined up very closely. Kira thought of Light as someone who would try to stop him if he could, and also saw his past self as someone who he had to corrupt morally and sacrifice in order to achieve his ambitions of creating a better world full of decent people. I think Kira would probably consider a Light totally separate from himself as one of these decent hardworking good people worth saving, but I also doubt that would stop him from sacrificing Light in order to achieve the new world he wanted.
- As a closing thought, it would be very interesting if Light lived in a world where Kira was reigning exactly the way Light would’ve done it, but as a totally separate person than him, because it makes you wonder, would Light ever decide to worship or support that Kira? Would he agree with/bow to a deity or person creating that exact idealized world of his if it wasn’t himself at the top doing the reigning? I kind of think Light’s ego might trump his idealism, and so I’m not sure if he’d really still be as fervent about those beliefs if they weren’t being handed down from him directly. I do think he was genuinely idealistic and had noble intentions starting out, but I also think he was arrogant and overconfident and loved the power he got from the Death Note a lot. I’m really not sure one way or the other on this one, but it would be a really interesting AU to explore!
