        ❛    woah,  okay,  put  down  the...  that.   ❜   was  it  a  knife ?  mj  didn’t  know and  really  couldn’t  tell,  but  it  did  look  like  a  weapon  ------  so  her  hands  go  up  anyway.   while  the  blonde  didn’t  strike  her  as  somebody  who’d  use  it  maliciously  (  or  use  it,  in  general  ),  she  could  never  be  too  sure.   better  safe  than  sorry.

𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐊𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒  𝐖𝐀𝐒  𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄  𝐀𝐍  𝐎𝐋𝐃  𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐃  𝐍𝐎𝐖  ,  as  a  child  ,  something  to  be  avoid  ,  something  that  needed  a  shred  of  light  to  scare  it  off  -----  NOW  he  embraces  it  ,  has  brought  it  into  his  soul  and  utilized  it  as  a  means  to  drag  the  worst  of  them  to  their  knees  .  tandy  is  imbued  with  the  light  ,  two  forces  becoming  one  and  she  walked  through  his  darkness  without  fear  .  now  she  stands  before  him  ,  having  seen  nothing  beyond  the  darkness  that  shrouds  him  in  his  very  own  CLOAK  .  ❛    but  you  were  able  to  come  back  -----  that’s  all  that  matters  ,  isn’t  it  ?      you’re  still  you  ,  and  that    makes  you  stronger  than  anyone  i’ve  ever  known      ❜  stronger  than  him  ,  that  much  he  knows  for  sure  .

A faint smile had crept upon Dick’s lips, his voice calm and confident like most times.

in a rare show of vulnerability, he finds himself sharing a piece of himself with her. he’s used to being ignored; people tend to know who he is without him trying. they all know him as the kid with murderers for parents, and they all try to keep their distance because what if he helped. he was a child. but sociopaths start early, so he’s been isolated from them ever since.. 

“i know what you mean.” he admits. “people.. they all think I’m going to snap like my parents did. but i’m not like them. i could never..” as mad as he could be at the government, as much resentment he’s ever felt towards anyone for riding him off as another killer. even if just out of spite because they all expect it from him, he refuses. “so i know a thing or two about families.” 

   ❝No no, it’s fine. Happens all the time. Well, not ALL the time. Just... more than I’d like.❞

   She was stating the obvious, considering that she can’t imagine anyone would enjoy falling out of the sky on any sort of consistency. Yet here she remained, body buried in a small crater in the middle of nowhere. Whatever dignity she had left was slowly draining from her as she offered a nonchalant wave to the person talking to her from the edge of her new home. A lopsided smile seemed to fit itself along her face, head barely risen to let crystalline blue eyes land on the small blonde girl. An eyebrow was flexed upwards, recognition flaring in her eyes as she scrunched her lips. But then the dull pain in the back of her head pulled her back from investigating that itch, eventually letting her head drop as Carol groaned mightily. ❝Ow. My everything. Yeah, if you don’t mind, I’m just gonna’ lay here. Forever.❞

                dick quirked an eyebrow and thanked the waitress for the both of them, handing over their menus with an apologetic smile. “ i can give you 2 out of 3 of those. i think this is more of a curly fries than onion rings place. “ that being said, this place seemed more of a ‘yesterday’s leftovers place than anything’.                 dick sighed it had been a long  .  .  .  well, that was kind of half the point  .  .  .   he didn’t know how long it had been. all he knew is that his simple recon mission to new orleans with the titans had turned south    (pun maybe-intended)     faster than BB clearing out an all you can eat buffet. they’d been split up in the city--- dick and tandy following a lead that separated the group, and the final attack sending them every which way except together. dick’s communicator had been busted, and tandy’s phone lost in the shuffle and the only thing they could rationally do at that point was get the hell out of dodge. kori, rachel, gar, and tandy’s friend ty were set to meet them at the nearest safehouse  .  .  .  .     40 miles   from their current location. so while fine dining in a grab n go IHOP in arkansas hadn’t been on the top of dick’s bucket list this summer, he was at least glad they were out of louisiana and hopefully the reach’s grasp.   out of the frying pan and into the fire  .  .  .                             “ any luck on your end trying to get in touch? “ dick had a sneaking suspicion   SOMEONE   from the other group of four had some mode of communication, but considering he and tandy were attacked with minimal time to react they could only bring what was immediately on hand. for a quick check list he had: an empty altoids can, his wallet, and the keys to the car they’d stolen parked out front. tandy had a go bag, but upon going with that bag had quickly come to realize it’d been cleaned out. and dick may not be a detective but he’s got a sneaking suspicion that parental jab was a clue. dick had yet to hear the whole story.   “ you wanna talk about what went down there? “
