Capo Passero

1871. Active; focal plane 39 m (128 ft); two white flashes every 10 s. 19 m (62 ft) round masonry tower with lantern and gallery, mounted on the northeast corner of a large square fort. Lighthouse painted white; the lantern dome is gray metallic. Trabas has Capt. Peter's photo (also seen below), Giuseppe Romeo has a 2021 photo, a distant view is available, Marinas.com has aerial photos, Giorgio Santitto has a street view, and Google has a satellite view. The fort was built by the emperor Charles VI, who also held the title of King of Sicily, in the early 18th century. Located on the Isola Capo Passero, an island just off the point of the cape and the town of Portopalo di Capo Passero. Peniche West Mole

Date unknown. Active; focal plane 12 m (39 ft); red flash every 3 s. 8 m (26 ft) round conical tower with a flared top, painted with red and white horizontal bands. Trabas has an excellent photo, Marco Stoppa has a 2020 photo, Andre Kurokawa has a street view, and Google has a satellite view. Located at the end of the west mole at Peniche. Alger Grand Môle (Passe Mustapha Feu Rouge)Date unknown. Active; continuous red light. 7 m (23 ft) round masonry tower with lantern and gallery. Lighthouse painted white, lantern red. This light is on the right in a distant view and Google has a satellite view. Located on a short breakwater projecting from the Grand Môle of Algiers, marking the south side of the southern entrance to the inner harbor. Site status unknown. Admiralty E6612; NGA 22408.

Aves de Barlovento (Windward Aves)

Date unknown. Active; focal plane 16 m (52 ft); one long (1.5 s) white flash every 10 s. Approx. 12 m (39 ft) square pyramidal steel skeletal tower with gallery, painted with red and white horizontal bands. Trabas has Capt. Mosselberger's photo, but the light is not seen in Bing's satellite view of the area. This light has probably been rebuilt several times; there's a photo of one earlier tower on the ground. Located near the western tip of a cay at the southeast end of the eastern reef complex. Accessible only by boat. Site open, tower closed. ARLHS VEN-002; Admiralty J6420; NGA 17000.

Port Austin Reef (2)

1899 (station established 1878). Active; focal plane 76 ft (23 m); white flash every 6 s. 60 ft (18 m) square cylindrical brick tower attached to 1-story brick keeper's house, mounted on octagonal pier; solar-powered 300 mm lens (1985). The buildings are unpainted brick; the lantern and gallery are painted black; the roofs are red. An additional 2-story brick keeper's house (1878) onshore is now a private residence. Anderson has a page with several photos, Pepper has a fine page for the lighthouse, Marty Hogan has a photo, Bash has a distant view, and the Coast Guard has a historic photo, but the light is barely visible in Google's satellite view. The lighthouse has been restored through intensive local efforts beginning in 1988. In 1990 the preservation group obtained a 30-year lease from the Coast Guard. A $14,000 state grant was used in 2001 to rebuild the station's dock for future public access. Exterior restoration is mostly complete and there are plans to restore the interior. The lighthouse became available for transfer under NHLPA in June 2011. In July 2012 the Secretary of the Interior announced that ownership of the lighthouse would be transferred to the preservation group, and the transfer was carried out in February 2013. In 2014 the state awarded $40,000 toward repairs and upgrades to the station's dock to improve public access. Located about 2 miles (3 km) offshore at the tip of Michigan's "thumb," near Port Austin. Round Island (Fort Resolution)

Date unknown. Active; focal plane 19 m (62 ft); white flash every 4 s. 15 m (49 ft) triangular skeletal tower carrying a rectangular red and white daymark. No photo available, but Bing has a satellite view. Located on the north side of Round Island, about 7 km (4 mi) west southwest of Fort Resolution. Accessible only by boat. Site open, tower closed. St. Joseph Point (Beacon Hill) Range Rear (relocated) (1)

1902. Inactive since 1960. 41 ft square wood keeper's house surmounted by square cylindrical tower with lantern and gallery. Lighthouse painted white. Sibling of the Gasparilla Island (Port Boca Grande) Light. Michael Pancier has a 2015 photo, Wikimedia has a 2010 photo, a January 2008 photo is available, the Coast Guard has a photo of the lighthouse when it was in service, and Google has a street view and a satellite view. The lighthouse was replaced by a skeletal tower (see below) in 1960. Sold as a private residence, the building was relocated in 1960 and again in 1979. The original lantern was accidently destroyed during the 1960 relocation. The current owners, JoAnn and Danny Raffield, have been working for years to renovate and restore the building. In April 2011 they completed their work by mounting a replica of the original lantern (Anderson has a photo of the lighthouse with its new lantern, and Google's May 2011 street view also shows the house with the lantern). Located on county road 30A next to Pressnell’s Fish Camp, 2.2 mi (3.5 km) south of the intersection of U.S. 98, south of Port St. Joe. Site and tower closed, but the lighthouse is easily seen from a beach access parking area next door. Owner/site manager: private. ARLHS USA-1023.

Jukdo (Chagwido, Chagwi Do, Chakwido)

Date unknown. Active; focal plane 67 m (220 ft); white flash every 6 s. 5 m (17 ft) round white concrete tower. Myung Su Seo has distant view and a closeup of the top of the tower and Google has a distant satellite view. Chagwido is an island off the western tip of Jeju. Located on heights at the west end of the island. Site status unknown. Admiralty M4255; NGA 17496.
