Hollow
EnglishLightberry (original project - more info here) One shot
Some romance here, in a rather slice of life story with some fantasy parts.
An angel had fallen from the sky. In this town, a few years ago. Her hair was of a deep black color, her eyes of a supernatural dark red. One of her wings had been broken and torn up in her fall. And now she was living among humans, her wings hidden, and she became human too. Yet, her wings kept being pure white. Although he convinced her to human vice. He pushed her into it. He was the sole responsible one for it.
âââââââ
An alarm clock rang from far away. Its sound was getting closer and closer, though, and quickly. A dull sound and it definitely stopped. A growl and he could finally open his eyes.
Gin Scarecrow slowly turned away in his bed to cast a glance to the ground where his alarm clock was piteously lying, but the second hand was still ticking weakly. It survived a new battle, once again.
This being checked, the young man settled his arm under the back of his neck and closed his eyes again. The alarm clock has been ringing only as a matter of principle for a few days. He did not have the will to get up, to do anything anymore. Someone knocked at the door, like those last past mornings, to inform him that he should get up, that he would be late to attend his classes, that he would be excluded from the exams if he kept skipping classes... His brother, Marwin, like his mother could still try hard to convince him ; he would not listen to them and he had locked the door. He was not feeling like doing anything anymore.
He tightened a bit more the sheets around him in the coolness of this morning of Autumn. His dirtied sheets. He had not changed them since... this event. He did not really know why, to tell the truth...
âââââââ
Four years ago, he had met a young girl of around his age in the street, while he was approached in a not so reassuring way by of group of boys from his school he often rubbed up the wrong way. He had not the easiest character and was often causing troubles to himself with the baddest ones, whereas he had himself never tried to imitate them. To have a gang around oneself had always appeared like a sign of weakness to him, and he had too much pride for that. But because of his character, he had found himself surrounded in a not much frequented path and, as strong as he could believe himself to be, he could not defeat to one against five. He had been beaten up, and it is at this moment that she came.
It was a girl with a small size, lean and fragile, black hair surrounding and hiding a part of her face with pale skin, but it let be seen two big eyes with a pinked pupil. Her eyes were attracting attention, but not as much as damaged wings standing in her back. One of them had partly been torn, and was stained in blood. It was a bit shady, for a disguise. Not talking about all of the dust and the mud that were covering her up.
Clumsily and a bit inadvertently, she had saved him from his aggressors. From then, Gin had gotten attached to her. He had temporarily put her up, secretly, before they met Kuro, some of Hollow's acquaintances, who showed up with wings too, and found for both of them an accommodation. It's only after a while that he understood that they both had real wings, made with bones, flesh and feathers, attached to their bodies ; that they were real angels. But those beings were showing a particular specificity : they could hid their wings from human beings' eyes, and this because humans were their preys... Hollow and Kuro seemed to have never touched human meat, but in any way, their species had little similarity with the angels he had always heard about.
But they had perfectly adjusted to their new human life ; their behavior was sometimes a bit strange in front of things they did not know, but nothing that could have made them noticed. It was another thing for Deep, an older, bigger, to say briefly more impressive angel, with his two pairs of wings affixed to his back. He was showing himself only from time to time without warning, not trying to socialize or to adjust with the way of life around him. Gin was feeling like he was keeping an eye constantly on them. He did not like him much ; this being gave him the feeling that he had the aura of a killer. But this was how were angels.
Years have passed and Hollow and him became close. He was seeing the young angel as a best friend, although the role of a big brother was fitting him better sometimes, Hollow being naive and most of the time too curious. She had always showed up when he needed support. He did not really know if he had been able to pay her back.
But for around a year, it had not been the same between them. The young man had met someone, in his last year of high school. A two years older student, and her looks were wreaking havoc around her : she had a perfect complexion, perfected with a thin layer of elaborate make-up, long blond hair with perfect ringlets. Her body was well-formed, with long and thin legs brought out by short skirts and high heels, and forms just where they needed to be, and, between them, a thin model-like waist. He had been taken with her. In his adolescent pride, he had tried to get closer to her. He himself had also some success with some members of the opposite gender, with his big size and his thin but manly body. He had managed to approach her, to seduce her and to date her.
But that was all. Their relationship did not get farther. There had only been appearance, and doubt had settled those last weeks. Why could he not join her some nights ? What was she really doing, when she said she was busy ? He was born in a family with important financial means, so the gifts he was offering her, were they a proof of love or just the satisfaction of the needs of his âgirlfriendâ ? Was she still with him only because it made the image of the âGin Scarecrow-Camille Conorâ couple keep going ? So much questions were bothering him, and he had never found the courage to say them. Yet, he had tried, he had already lost his temper, but she took him with sweet words, and he lost his strength. However, she had never reassured him by saying she loved him. But the illusion was much more bearable that the reality that was forcing itself more and more on him. And in all of this, Hollow interfered.
After those events, the student got a bit away from her, unwillingly. When he had realized it, he had not dared contacting her as often as before. He had seen he had hurt her. However, Hollow had not blamed him. It was her who had came to him, and he had had the chance to confide, partly, tacitly, but confide anyway. But a few nights ago, he drifted. More than ever, the young man had been feeling bad ; he had thought a lot, and saw that the break-up was the only solution. If there had not been any break-up in facts yet, the time that separated his last day with Camille being so old. He knew how to hid appearances, to look strong and determined, but coming to put a term to their relation looked impossible to him, for a reason he did not understand. The blame would surely be on him. Or maybe he was mistaking about the way their relationship took. Or, maybe this deterioration had for sole cause his own behavior. His nervousness had been at its climax that day long. Hollow noticed it, and visited him in the night. They had talked, for a moment, then the silence had lasted. Maybe to find a way to comfort him, the young angel had sat against him. Their gaze had crossed. And everything had changed.
Gin was sure about it until now, he did not like Hollow in a love way. She was a dear person to him, but not someone he would have thought he would do this kind of things with. And yet... Despite those several months in couple, he had experienced his first physical relation this night, and Hollow too, obviously. She had never rejected him ; on the contrary. But now, Gin was regretting it. If she would have stopped him, he would have not broke up their relationship for good. Nonetheless, a part of him was admitting that, for a moment, he had felt the warmth of a person who was accepting him, who was here for him... But to which extent ? What where the reasons she was here for ? The young man had been unable to explain himself after that, and they have left in silence. Since then, they had not had any contact. He had not left home, and Hollow had not given any sign of life anymore. The few messages he was getting from his friends stayed without reply, even though they were getting more and more worried. And Camille, of course, had not tried just once to catch up on his news. He felt more like considering it was over. In the end, he was really slipping away. But he was worried to death for Hollow. What was she thinking of all of that ? Maybe she was imagining things... He should get in touch with her. But what would he say to her ? And if they had to break off all ties for good ? It was certainly not a solution...
The young man turned back in his bed and put an arm in front of his eyes.
âââââââ
A few days passed this way, but the young man was getting back his strengths little by little. He eventually accepted to open the door of his bedroom outside from the hours where everyone was sleeping and to have meals at normal hours. His family was obviously worried for him, but there was only his younger brother, Marwin, who asked him questions ; to see himself being brushed off, but he was already used to it. His brother was often clingy and indiscreet and was having fun imitating his elder brother. For example, both of them had dark colored hair but, when Gin had decided to dye it in a strange silver color, Marwin quickly followed him, but to bleach entirely his hair â on the basis that white color was bringing out perfectly his electric blue eyes. He had never made the connection with their father. The said one was constantly away for his work ; Gin had always refused to understand it, seeing his mother tiring more years passed, and had came to the point to want to erase every similarity with him. To the color of his hair. His mother, with the name of Blanche, was, as for herself, always here, sweet and attentive. But her health was weak and she was often getting sick. Her life was not in danger, but her oldest son kept worrying when he was seeing her strengths prematurely decline. He could not forgive his father to not take care of her wife first.
He had just left for a buisness trip when Hollow spent the night with him ; he should only come back in a week. So, when Gin was better again, his mother had not much difficulty to convince him to have his meals with Marwin and her, which he never did in presence of Alexander Scarecrow. It was after diner, once he got back to his bedroom, that his attention was distracted by the sound of a projectile hitting right into the window. With a jolt, he rushed to it in order to yell at the one who was trying to shatter the window of his house out. But, in place of them, he saw Kuro, in company of a young girl he did not know, and who was firmly holding some gravels from the entry of the garage of his house in her hand. When he saw him bending over the window, Kuro rushed to her in order to grab her hand and prevent her from sending her projectiles right in his face.
âCan I know what's gotten to you ?â, Gin exclaimed in an irritated way.
âSorry to pass by so lateâ, Kuro apologized. âBut I couldn't hold Eva back, she wanted to see you today...â
âEva ?â
âYes, I'll explain. Hm, we didn't dare to knock on the front door, we'd disturb, in such an hour...â
âIndeed, you're disturbingâ, Gin replied, looking irritated. âDon't move, I'm getting downstairs.â
His mother should be sleeping, so he took care of hurtling down the stairs quietly â also in order to avoid his littler brother starting to come to ask questions and interfere in his conversations with his friends. He quickly joined Kuro and his friend outside. He had never saw her before, but when he looked closer at her, he could not help but thinking of Camille : she was smaller and more rounded than his ex â at least he better liked seeing this way now â girlfriend, but she was as blond as her, with curls that could be as pretty as Camille's if they wasn't cut as shortly, and a chest at least as much generous as her... But it was better to not think about her...
âWhy do you come to see me at such an hour ?â, he flung, looking rather irritated.
âLet me introduce Evaâ, Kuro said clumsily. âShe moved in near to me, she comes from abroad. And when I told her about people I knew, she wanted to meet them. Eva, here's Gin...â
Eva just greeted him with a small sign of her head, firmly holding Kuro's arm. She looked a lot shyer than when she had thrown stones on the window. Gin did really not understand why she would come in such an hour just to introduce everyone. They could have done this the next day as well, which he did not miss to let know, but Eva pouted.
âI just wanted to see how you look like...â
âWhat did Kuro say to you ?â, he replied, looking suspicious.
âN-nothing !â, Kuro immediately responded, embarrassed.
And their conversations did not get deeper. Gin could not make them go in his home at such an hour, and Kuro and him were not that close ; their topics ran dry quickly, and the two boys seemed fully disposed to go their ways, but Eva kept holding them. She was not stopping asking questions to Gin, questions that quickly appeared each one more absurd than the last ; she even started to ask him where he was living, although his house was standing just behind him... What was her head made of ? The young man eventually had to push her in the street in hope she would finally leave.
âWe'll see eachother tomorrow in the morning, then ?â, she asked, full of hope. âI'm in your old high school, so I'm taking the same way as you when you go to college.â
Gin put aside the idea of asking her how she knew that whereas she had not asked him about it and had questioned him for a long time about every detail of his life as if she did not know a thing about him. He also gave up to let her know he had not attended classes for a while. She looked like she could come into his room if needed, even if he did not show any sign of life...
Thus, he was awake in time the next morning, his eyes heavy and dragging his feet after loosing the habit of waking up early, but in time to leave home, his bag on his shoulder. Eva was already waiting for him, alone this time. Indeed, Kuro had classes in a higher school located on the other side of the town from the high school and the university they were both going to. When she saw him, she hurriedly turned her eyes away to stare at the ground, holding her bag close to her, looking embarrassed. The student greeted her quickly and gestured her to start their way. The journey started in the utmost silence. A few times, Gin wanted to ask her why she wanted to come with him, although they did not know eachother and there was not even the shadow of a topic they could talk about when walking ; but he changed his mind. The high school student looked very embarrassed to be with him. She looked much less shy next to Kuro. And the only subject of conversation he found was immediately regretted :
âSay, do you know Hollow ? Since she's living with Kuro...â
Eva's nervousness seemed to triple.
âY-yes, a bit... Why ?â
âIt's been a while I haven't had news from her...â, Gin tried while attempting to hide all the awkwardness that had certainly settled between his friend and him. âI'm a bit worried.â
âWhy didn't you call her ?â
A few minutes of silence followed, that Eva judged good to not trouble. Gin did not know what to answer ; he could hardly see himself telling her their whole adventures, it was not her business at all either.
âI was afraid I would disturb her...â, he ended up saying, and it was not entirely false â he made her know that some tension restrained him from making contact with her again in the same time.
âDon't worry, she's just not feeling that fine, those times. Ah, but you don't have to worry !â, Eva reassured immediately when seeing him growing pale. âIt's not very serious, she's just sick, and the virus is dragging on a bit. She has poor health. W-well, I guess you already knew it.â
âI should visit herâ, Gin replied, not convinced at all by the fact a mere sickness was the reason of Hollow's prolonged silence.
âN-no ! W-well... S-she really needs to rest... At least... you can call her ?â
Eva finished her sentence in an almost inaudible tone. It was clear she was hiding something. But if it was Hollow herself who asked her to not let him see her, he could not go against her will. He had already made her suffer too much. But at least he should apologize and show her he was still here, so the young man decided he would call her once the classes were over.
But the day passed, and his thoughts too, in company of his doubts, and all of his big willpower deteriorated little by little to let the place to nervousness. He was easily giving himself airs in public, but more than ever he felt like a real wimp and, instead of motivating him to surpass his fear, it only made him doubt more and more. While leaving his classes at evening, the student had no courage at all to call his friend anymore. He kept telling himself it would have been better to see her face to face, to be able to really talk and really see what were the young girl's sentiments about it. But would have he dared to come ? If that was the case, then he would have already gone against Eva's words. This night, he would come back home to study a bit, to have meals with his mother and his brother and would go to bed, and the whole thing in company of guilt.
A few days passed this way, until guilt came to eat Gin away as far as in his dreams. In the middle of an essay one night, he stopped right away and grabbed his cellphone with a sharp movement, brutally pulling his affairs on his desk away ; a full pencil case crashed into the ground to pour its contents onto the floor. Before he could start doubting again, the student quickly looked for Hollow's number and started the phone call. He waited a bit while listening to the tone repeating in the phone ; then a bit more. Then the messaging service was set off. And he put down his phone. Maybe she really wanted to have no contact with him... He hided his face in his hand. Maybe it was better this way, in the end. They would certainly have never been able to have a normal relationship again, after what happened between them.
The ring tone of his cellphone then started. Hollow's name was displayed on the screen. With haste, Gin answered.
âGin...?â Hollow's little voice seemed to relieve him immediately. âI'm sorry, I couldn't find my phone, it slid under my bed...â
âIt's nothing, I thought it was thatâ, her friend lied. âYour new neighbor, this small blond girl, told me you were sick ?â
A small hesitation was felt, and again, Gin could not help the certainty that she was hiding something from him.
âIt's okay, I'm just not feeling that fine, but I'm getting better little by little. Kuro's not feeling very well too, it looks contagious. So we should wait a bit more before seeing eachother, okay ?â
The question was obviously settled, and Gin was not feeling like contradicting her at the moment. This thorny question skipped, he was relieved to feel the tension disappearing when they got back to a usual conversation. He did not really know why he felt so relieved, as he sometimes let people behind without scruples. But Hollow was really important for him, and she was not really a being like the others either... even a human being.
âââââââ
Days kept passing, without more appearance of Hollow but with more and more stuttering explanations from Kuro. Gin was still going to school with Eva, who quickly appeared as someone very clumsy, but the young man was not sure to know if it was her nature or only in his presence. He was not particularly impatient to have an answer either. But nothing important happened to her, until this Monday. The two teenagers had realized classes ended for them in the same time this day, so Eva took the decision to get back home together too. She was coming out of breath in front of the university to wait for him, and Gin often made her point that he would wait for her if she was not in time, she did not have to run that much. But there was nothing to do, she was just blushing, replying she did not trust him. She was blushing more and more, those times.
âGin... Do you think you could help me with an exercise again ? I didn't had really good marks, and I wouldn't dare to always ask Kuro to help me...â
Gin sighed :
âWhat's it about ?â
Eva started to search for the right notebook in her bag, of course without looking around her anymore. The student had just the time to see a bicycle rushing in the corner of the street that he could just try to catch Eva in vain when it hit her with full force.
âI-I'm sorry !â, the reckless cyclist apologized several times. âIs she okay ?â
âYou'd better clear off and learn to go riding on the road like everyone !â, and he sent him such a dark glare that the one at fault found nothing to answer back.
Eva had simply fallen backwards and was still conscious. She had nothing serious, but her hand slid towards her ankle that looked like it made her suffer.
âWe should go to the hospital, maybe it's broken.â
âN-no, it'll be okay ! I still can move it, see !'
âBut it need to be healed !â
âI don't want to go to the hospital !â
The doctors would not kill her nor amputate her... But Gin accepted the small blond's demand, while obligating her to stop at his house to have some aids. The way to reach it was quiet short, but it was quiet difficult to do : Eva could hardly lean on her ankle. The young man should weigh the pros and cons for a while before deciding, completely embarrassed, to show her his back.
âClimbâ, he said quiet brutally, because of his embarrassment. âWe'll be faster this way.â
Feeling Eva's fragile arms wrapping themselves around his neck and touching her above her knees to lift her on his back made him shiver slightly despite himself. She was less heavy that he would have thought and he felt the warmth of her body right against his back. An embarrassed silence settled down while he walked along the streets to his home. At a point, he felt her putting her chin against his shoulder and her golden locks came to stroke his chin. The young man surprised himself by tightening back his hold to feel her more against him.
His mother took care of Eva with her accustomed gentleness. It was eventually not a fracture, and there was more pain than anything else, but she had to do a tight bandage to maintain the ankle until it would be less painful. The bright red color of Eva's cheeks did not leave her anymore and it deepened even more when Blanche Scarecrow suggested :
âWhile waiting for Eva to feel better why wouldn't you go in your room ?â
âMom, my room is not really...!â, Gin clumsily replied.
âYou should have kept it better than that. You won't let this girl in front of the door, will you ?'
Her son sighed lengthily but ended accepting. His room was not in the best of her state, with the sheets of his bed casually pushed to the floor, his clothes all over the place, but Eva did not care and sat gently at the edge of the bed as if she was used to do it. Gin took the occasion to pick a few things and to put them in pile in an already more than full closet.
âYou'd better be healed quickly, okay ?â
âY-yes...!â
The student sat down besides her, not knowing what more to say. He could not help but casting a few glances towards her in the corners of his eye from time to time ; she looked like Hollow with her slight put, but Hollow was not as embarrassed as her in his presence. And he was not as embarrassed as now in hers...
âI'm sorry to bother you.â
âHuh ?â
Eva ducked her head towards her knees. Her cheeks had found their deep red color back. He thought he heard a mumble sounding like âbut I like going back home with youâ. He absolutely did not know what to answer.
âI've never asked your opinion about it, and it must be irritating you... But I really love being with you !â
What did she mean by that, exactly ? He rather be cautious.
âI've never said you were bothering me...â
âReally ?â
Eva's gaze got filled with hope. He had so much the feeling that he was seeing Hollow again...
âBut you know... I... I really love being with you. I'd like to be even more...â
She was crimson red, and it seemed to him that her words were saying a lot. Gin realized he was mumbling discontinued syllables trying to answer her. But he did not have the time to get a grip on himself ; she had turned back to him to look at him in the eyes. This kind of occasions would not show again quickly, and he was almost sure her gaze was an invitation. So slowly, he got closer to her, looking for a sign and, gently, his hand was put on the young girl's shoulder ; she looked like she was waiting. The young man took his courage in his hands and put a kiss on her lips. Two hands immediately climbed on his shirt and he dared to intensify.
It was Eva who pushed him away to catch her breath. Her chest was lifting quickly under her crimson red cheeks. Like with Hollow... He was making her a substitute. This admission hit him. He was making Eva the substitute of the figure that was Camille, and especially Hollow, of which he actually had never stopped thinking, but he could not realize it. But this time he would take responsibility. So, more assured, he took the small blond's lips again.
At a moment, he was sure he heard her whispering a âI love youâ and his heart tightened painfully.
âââââââ
After this episode, he had effectively âtaken responsibilityâ and had asked Eva to go out with him. She had hurriedly answered positively, her eyes overflowing with joy. He did not really know why he was doing that ; this story was likely to turn in a bad way. But he needed someone, really, and Hollow was a person he could forget for this kind of relationships with him. And, he was far from hating Eva. Just, his heart was not really hers... even if he was seeing Hollow's reactions more and more often in her. As if he was not feeling bad enough already...
The young man was lying casually on the covers of his bed, late in the night. He took the habit of exchanging numerous of messages with Hollow with his cellphone at night. Even if she still did not let him see her, she was okay with exchanging this way with him. Maybe it was only to make him happy and she was suffering about it, but he was unable to stop doing it. He was seeing Eva very regularly, now, but he felt the need to talk with Hollow, and he would have liked to see her so much... Though he did not mention Eva with her.
Both of them eventually wished a good night to eachother and he pulled his pillow towards him to put it under the back of his neck. For a long time, he stared at the ceiling that was invaded by the night, until his phone rang again. Surprised, he noted that the message was coming from Kuro. But when opening it and founding all the hearts and unctuous smileys, the young man did not need a lot of time to understand it was not from Hollow's friend. Eva had told him she did not own a cellphone, so she was borrowing Kuro's. But what an hour to use your neighbor's phone... That's what he made her notice, but with an amused smile on his lips. And, with time, Eva knew it too, even through a screen. The talk did not lasted long and he ended it ordering her to let her neighbors alone and to go to bed. The last message he got was under Hollow's number to wish him a good night. But she had already wished it fourty-five minutes ago and must be certainly sleeping right now. Rationally, it should be Eva's answer to his own good night. Gin watched his screen for a long moment. She was at Kuro and Hollow's place at almost midnight and was using alternately their cellphones ?!
âââââââ
The student could sermon her at leisure the next day.
âI hope you've rested enough, or you'll never stand tonight !â
âTonight ?â, Eva asked, bending her head to the side.
It was not exactly this way that he wanted to tell her...
The gala of his university was indeed happening this night, and even if Gin was ready for it, he had never dared to invite his girlfriend, even if he was decided to bring her anyway. He had even organized the night in his mind, and raised several hypothesis in order to be ready and to be sure to leave the party with Eva and spend the night with her. After all, the high school student was still an attracting girl, and he himself found her very cute ; plus, they had been dating for a month, now... He did not have any excuse, actually. Except maybe the crimson expressions Eva had when they were kissing. Anyway, they were both adults and together, it was time to go to the upper stage. At least sharing a bed together. At least.
The explanations were fastidious and he regretted that he had not suggested it before ; the moment of embarrassment would have lasted less long. Besides, Eva had decided to borrow a dress to Hollow, which he did not approve that much deep inside. She was really using everything at her neighbors' place. And especially, she looked like she was often seeing Hollow. Would the angel still accept her visits if she knew she was dating him ? Of course... She would be happy for them. He had too much hope.
So the two teenagers met on the evening to go to the gala. For the occasion, Eva was really beautiful and Gin surprised himself by blushing while wondering if, really, Hollow had such a dress among her clothes. How would it look on her...? Her outfit was mostly black, white touches scattered in some places, like on her partly uncovered shoulders and her décolleté ; the skirt in bias let escape a flood of withe fabric that was coming above her knees. And... heels. And obviously, Eva had never wore heels. He would spend his night catching her. And hopefully, he would have to carry her to bring her back home because her feet would hurt her too much. And certainly not like a valiant knight who came to save his princess. There were good chances the night would be much less romantic than planned. After all, it was Eva...
The party at the university, itself, was not the most interesting he had known. Everyone was well dressed â himself included, in his suit with a badly tied bow tie, and that Eva did not help -, but there was nothing truly extraordinary, and he even found the music only average. The young man let himself have a few aperitifs, keeping an eye on Eva's drinking. Eva getting drunk was all he needed. Of course, no dance, no slow, no waltz. Her partner was looking at the couples with desire, but did not dare to ask anything, and Gin would have never done the first step for that. Furthermore, he was not sure he could dance ; it was not needed for him to make a fool of himself in front of the others. His friends already mocked him enough when they found out a girlfriend who had been hidden and, to his misfortune, looked younger that she really was. But she had eighteen years old !
Thus, in the middle of the night, as Eva was starting dozing a bit on her feet, he insisted to leave. The high school student was having more fun than him, but he made her clearly understand that he did not want to stay any longer, in front of what she gave in. Though she looked a lot more embarrassed when he declared that he was taking her home.
âThere're no 'buts'. You see what time it is ? There's no way I'll let you go home alone !â
âOkay, okay... If you insistâ, Eva sighed.
Gin knew by heart the way that led to her block of flats. He had never come to her girlfriend's place, but he had visited Hollow a lot in the past. So he quickly followed the faster path, a bit in a rush to come. In front of the entry of the block, Eva opened her mouth to certainly wish him a good night, but he took the occasion to wrap an arm around her waist to kiss her in a suggestive way. A small approving moan made him tighten his embrace to melt their bodies one against another.
He was doing a good job so far, and he had no problem to come inside with Eva, still kissing her. She was living in the flat just next to Kuro and Hollow's one, she had already said to him ; so he had no problem guiding both of them to the elevator to make them go to the fourth floor, taking the chance of the closed space to slide a caressing hand on the young girl's hips, who was reacting in a lot more positive than way he would have imagined. He pulled her into the corridor of the fourth stair and pushed her for an instant against the wall to kiss her more, daring to slide one or two kisses on her neck. That is when he realized she was extremely tensed. The young man sent her a gaze that he wanted to be reassuring, and checked their positions. They were just before the door of Kuro's apartment. Trying to not take care of it, he gently took Eva's hand to guide her towards the door on the right. But she held him back.
âIt's not there...â, she said with a low voice.
âAh, then...â, he said while pulling her towards the door on the left.
But she shook her head, staring at the floor.
âYou mean...?â
He turned towards the door in front of them, not really knowing what he should deduce. Eva nodded and put a finger to one of her eyes. He understood quickly that she was taking off a contact lens. When she looked up, he found an eye that did not have a human color : it was of a pink color close to red. Just like Hollow's irises... Seeing that he was not reacting, the young girl then turned around and raised the strands of hair that were falling on the back of her neck.
âSince you told me late about the gala, I had not the time to do it again...â
At the basis of her hair, Gin could now see black traces, like a dyeing that was starting to fade. He started at it, astonished...
âI could also show my wings out, if you want, but it's certainly not the place...â
âH... Hollow...?â
She bowed her head.
âSorry, Gin... Since... since the first time, I had understood that you were suffering, with this girl, Camille... I thought you needed someone and... S-since you seemed to better like blond ones... I did all I could to change my physical appearance as much as possible, and even my voice... I wanted you to have someone.â
âBut...â
âBut I myself got caught up in the gameâ, she continued in a whisper, tears starting to form in her eyes. âI'm really happy to be with you, I want to stay like that... Please, don't be mad at me... A-and stay with me...! I'll keep being Eva for you !â
Gin stayed quiet for a moment. He did not know what to say nor to think. He slid a hand down Eva's, or Hollow's, no matter, cheeks, and swept away the tears before joining their foreheads.
âI... I thought that, after all, Kuro maybe was right... I shouldn't have lied to you. Sorry...â
âHollow... I don't really want to think tonight. Can we go inside ? I'm feeling exhausted.â
Maybe it was egoistic, or at least cowardly, but he did what he could the make her understand that he had not the intention to leave her. Then without a sound, Eva turned cautiously the key in the lock and guided Gin to her room, Hollow's one, discretely to not wake up Kuro. Once the door had just been shut, he let his jacket fall on the ground, unbuttoned his shirt and took of his belt before dropping himself on the small bed. He had never felt this exhausted, and the late hour of the night was not the main reason of it. Quickly, he felt another weight on the mattress and felt the small body, Eva's or Hollow's, cuddling up against his. He wrapped an arm around her and nuzzled against her golden locks before feeling himself touched by slumbers.
The upper stage would wait, eventually. He actually was only on the prologue.
Hollow
- Tu n'as qu'Ă mieux la tenir.
"Tu as intĂ©rĂȘt Ă te remettre rapidement, okay ?
- O-oui...!"
Tu as vu l'heure ?
Je me sens épuisé."
