VideoJoe is just about ready to install the new exterior light fixture now that he has removed the old exterior light fixture but first he wants to pull the new exterior light fixture out of the box & take a quick look at it to see how it will be installed & to see what else he may have to do to it before going back up the ladder to install it. It's got a ground screw on the new mounting bracket but the old exterior light fixture did not even have a ground wire up there so his thought is if that old exterior light fixture has been up there for the last 40 years with no problems then he will wager he can install the new exterior light fixture without hooking up & connecting the ground wire that's attached to the new exterior light fixture. Most times however if there is an existing ground wire in the junction box then by all means connect the new ground wire! Or if you have an existing metal junction box then you could at least connect the new ground wire to the metal junction box as that is better than nothing. How to replace a ceiling mount light fixture...Part 4 is what this DIY howto video is about. VideoJoe is right in the middle of removing the old existing ceiling mounted light fixture. In fact I think he has it removed now. He will look at the new light fixture now to see if there is anything he can do to it & prep it a bit before getting back up to the ceiling to install like the mounting bracket. It just takes him a few minutes to check out the mounting bracket to see how it's set up. Can he use the old mounting bracket if it looks the same? Maybe but he likes to remove all the old stuff if possible & install the new mounting bracket since the new mounting bracket may be set up a bit differently than the old one. What type of light fixture should I install is what this DIY howto video is about. VideoJoe is just getting ready to install some light fixtures to replace some old tired light fixtures in need of being replaced but what type of light fixtures should he replace them with, I asked. The owner doesn't want to spend very much money but the light fixtures need to serve the purpose & look halfway decent as wells so I guess it depends on the existing conditions & what could look acceptable & still give off enough light etc.. Ask 100 different people & get 100 different answers on what type of light fixtures would look best for the price I suspect.
