Chapter 2 — A Stranger's Warmth...
❤︎Synopsis : After finally arriving at the hospital and getting patched up, they all suddenly came together. Although technically MC forced them to come along with her, while going there thinking they won't really do much or anything, probably feeling bored after a few hours they unexpectedly heard you say something that made them oddly warm.

You lay there like a dead fish although no twitching nor moving from you, Zayne, the supposedly doctor who helped slow down the bleeding told you not to move much as the ice evol was thin just in case. The ambulance arrived and you were able to get help on time, your babies Valor and Goliath with MC who sat near and Zayne helping out with the paramedics who were able to bandage you up properly this time with needed supplies being available, just to stop the intense bleeding which you still didn't understand how you're still alive at this point. You'll have to thank Zayne later for it.
You bit your lip through the pain, jaw clenched and hands clenched. The pain was unbearable you could practically see white lights from above now or maybe it's just the lights of the ambulance, heaven must be taunting your ass because of how it felt being so reachable but you were kept down to earth, shackled.
'Not like I'll ever see those pearly gates with the things I've read, listened to and watched... Although I'm not that scared, I won't be alone cause I know all of you readers probably won't either...' You let out a quiet snort while Zayne looked down at you. Making sure you still have your eyes open.
"We're almost there...Please keep your eyes open." Zayne spoke cooly while you glanced at him, a small smirk making its way on your face so smug. "Yes, Doctor McStuffins, thank you for the reminder."
Zayne just sighed at your response, MC being quiet as you slowly moved your head towards where she was at. Seemingly looking at her hunter watch for any reports from that unknown wanderer. You just hummed before speaking. "They seem confident..." MC perks up at your words, looking at you confused. "Your boys I mean..." You smirked while looking at MC with a soft gaze, she blushed as sighed. "They're not my boys...we're all just friends..." She spoke blatantly, sure of herself although you could hear a bit of hesitation. You could also feel Zayne's hand tensing up a bit from MC's words before resuming on checking if the bandages were nicely wrapped. Too focused, Too tense.
'Ahh...so that's their dynamic...' You thought, your gaze holding a hint of softness. Sensing the uncomfortable tension as you let out a loud snort deciding to diverge their attention away from it immediately, also suddenly remembering something. MC looked at you confused and Zayne stared at you also confused while thinking how...odd you are? He didn't know.
"What did you remember this time?" MC sighed, looking at you tired with a warm smile on her face. Zayne glanced at her noticing how different she seemed...around you. "Remember the time someone accidentally bumped onto you while you were looking down at a very creamy cake making you face planted on it?"
You teased as MC frowned, her cheeks getting red as she glared at you. "You! I thought we agreed not to talk about it!" Pouting at you while you laughed at her then suddenly grimacing a bit when you felt a sharp pain then before putting up a smile for her again who looked at you concerned. "Hey...don't laugh too much if it hurts..."
You just stick your tongue out at her. "Well technically laughing can release dopamine making me forget about the pain...it's a win/win situation...I get to laugh and forget about it for a while...and also bonus points...make you remember the embarrassing moments you had..." You cooed, while MC frowned at you. Reaching out to gently slap your foot, you huffed.
"Not one of my grippers bro, what did she ever do to deserve this treatment?" You groaned dramatically, wiggling your toes while MC looked at you with a grimace and also a smile on her face. "Well this gripper of yours is a part of you...and it's not injured so I can technically hit you without causing more pain..besides that it stinks...did you even take a shower today?" MC teased while you huffed at her, now a bit embarrassed cause you told once, mind you, just ONCE when you didn't take a shower for 2 days because you needed to get a report done and now she's using it as an advantage.
"So cruel to me, MC...How can you be so cruel to someone injured.." You whined at her. You and MC were talking back and forth, teasing each other while Zayne observes the sight closely. He wondered, if he could ever make MC feel that comfortable and relaxed around him, safe and sound with no worry or would he just ruin it because of...
You glanced away from MC noticing Zayne's quiet demeanor, about to ask him something when the ambulance reached the hospital after like 30 consecutive minutes, more or less. Zayne immediately helped with moving you out, noticing how stiff he seemed. You gently placed a hand over his forearm making him snap his head towards you filled with confusion. You just smiled at him.
"Thank you for saving my life, Doctor...Despite not knowing me or anything, you have a kind heart befitting for a doctor...Cooool and keen." You winked, Zayne stared at you blinking slowly while the tension from his shoulders slightly loosened. "Definitely my type." You winked at him as he stared at you in pure disbelief, about to say something before you got taken away for surgery immediately.
He watched you beside MC who held your...babies aside. Watching you turn around just to wave them goodbye despite everything probably hurting when you did that, your stretcher moving further and further away. Having that stupid smile on your face, while waving aggressively made his lips twitch before looking composing himself once more.
'Saved your life huh?....I wish I could've done the same for them too...'
While you were in the hospital healing, MC took your babies at her care with your permission of course. They were bored at her place honestly and would practically beg MC to take them to you instead of being stuck in her apartment and her. After like 6 days though, visitors were allowed in your room. MC having Zayne help her with the nurses, Sylus hiding Volar inside his jacket, Caleb hiding Goliath too in a bag which he made sure the pup would be able to breathe, Xavier had the foods at hand and Rafayel had his beauty.
They walked towards your room as MC walked in first, all of them slowly coming inside and had their own views of it. The room was nothing special or anything, just a simple and small room for you. They saw you being asleep at first, they quiet down placing the things they brought out as Rafayel closes the door gently.
They made sure to be extra quiet as possible or MC would have their heads. No speaking, no creaking chairs, heck even no fuckass breathing loudly. Talking about Caleb, Sylus, Zayne, and Rafayel. Not Xavier though, he's pretty quiet all the time.
"She's asleep shouldn't we-" Rafayel started off with a whisper until you suddenly jolted up and stare around the room. Making Rafayel let out a squeal, Zayne flinched, Xavier stared back at you while his heart honestly jumped, Sylus's hand twitched, Caleb's breath hitched and MC? She was used to it. Your eyes were round and wide from being woken up, like you were staring at their souls or something. Eyes balls gauging out as they blinked slowly, one at a time.
"What the hell was that?!" Rafayel placed a hand on his chest. MC just sighed before shaking her head as the rest of the boys just stayed silent. "She's probably been conscious ever since we came inside and she's just now jolting up fully awake...It's normal..."
They looked at MC dumbfounded then at you who slowly rubbed your eyes and smiled at them. Acting as if you didn't just jumpscare the living shit out of them all suddenly.
"Sup MC, Zayne...and multiple strange men."
A few moments later....
"Get that monster out of my face and presence. Immediately." Rafayel shivered seeing MC holding out Valor's paw out and moving closer to Rafayel who took multiple steps back. "Aww is bwig ferowcious fishie swcared?" MC teases him using a baby voice while Rafayel leans back against the wall, disgust written all over his face apart from adoration and smugness from having MC's attention to himself right now.
"Still can't believe you're afraid of cats..." Zayne sighed, heavily disappointed but not surprised. Sylus just smirked very amused, Xavier was eating some fruits you graciously allowed for him to eat even if they were yours. And Caleb was just taking a video for some blackmail later as he spoke. "The infamous art painter Rafayel, somehow never scared of the public is actually petrified of cats! How weird..." Mocking him while Rafayel glared at him with a snarl before seeing MC move closer towards him making him lean back.
You just stared at them with amusement. Thinking were they actually here for you or your babies? Valor just lets everything happen without restraints, while Goliath just looks up at you from the chair he was placed on, keeping you company while his big sister gets toyed with. A small woof coming out of him, making you turn your attention towards him. Instantly melting when you saw that cute smile on his face, you bit your lip inhaling sharply trying to control the cuteness aggression trying to take control of you and give your pup a lot of kisses.
Reaching out and gently patting his head making him let out a few huffs happily. Meanwhile with the rest, Valor just stared at Rafayel's face being so close to her. She lets out a small meow as if greeting him and Rafayel squints his eyes at her, clearly not fond of her or anything and in response Valor rolled her eyes at him making Rafayel gasped, offended. "Did this feline just roll its eyes at me?"
MC lets out a snort, feeling Valor squirming against her grasps as MC puts her down immediately. Valor began walking away without a second glance, her focus on you and Goliath as she jumped onto the chair with Goliath. "She's so rude!" Rafayel squealed while he pouts. "And you weren't?" Sylus scoffed while he raised a brow at Rafayel.
"I was reacting the right way towards that...creature..." Rafayel motions towards Valor who began purring loudly once she was next to Goliath and having your attention towards her as well.
"She's just matching your energy..." You piped in capturing everyone's attention, glancing at Rafayel with a smirk on your face. Rafayel raised a brow while he huffed, crossing his arms while his gaze narrowed. "Oh really? Do tell what sort of energy this is..." You let out a snort while looking smug. "The bratty kid type of energy."
"Pft-..." Zayne lets out a snort making everyone silent, all eyes on him while he looks back at everyone. A stoic expression back to his face. "What? It's the truth." Caleb breaks out a grin as he slings his arms around Zayne's back who stumbled forward and glares at Caleb who acted as if he didn't see it. "Yea can't argue with that..." The others letting out various noises of agreements, Rafayel just gasped looking offended. "I'm sorry but I am in no way shape or form am a brat...I'm more of a diva. Get it right." Rafayel scoffed, gently brushing his hair aside.
"Oh please, the only diva here is MC. Look at her she's The baddest of the baddies and you-" Stopping briefly while you look at Rafayel up and down, raising and having this questioned look on your face—definitely the 'are you serious right now?' face.
Rafayel lets out a dramatic gasped while he glares at you, rolling his eyes. A small curl at the end of his lips cause technically people would only praise and agree with him so bland and clearly an act to get into his pants, that's one part of it yea. It's also because of the way you said it though, teasingly playful also sweet in a way, Clearly NOT trying to get into his pants.
Rafayel when he first got invited by MC to go and visit you, made a confused expression. He complained not understanding why he needed to go there cause technically he didn't know you. You were nothing but a stranger to him, a mere rock in the cold depths of the ocean for him. Just an average civilian that didn't pique his interest. Sylus blatantly carried him like a potato sack cause MC wasn't taking no for an answer. He thrashed around until he finally relented and went.
He was glad he did though, even if he's too stubborn to admit he's actually warming up to another human. MC and a few others were already a lot and he didn't want more but somehow you managed to capture his attention. Just a tiny bit though. Don't get overly confident.
You weren't special or anything. Just truly average and ordinary but maybe that's why he's a bit interested cause usually no one was THIS plain, yea you might have a decently good personality but that was all.
He definitely didn't feel warm and calm around you like he's known you for centuries. Nope. The only person who makes him feel like that is MC and of course the only person he remembers is also his beloved, MC. So definitely not...right? So why is he here feeling cozy around you? Why is he here acting as if he's known you for centuries?
You did seem rather familiar but he couldn't place a finger on it. Maybe he'll remember one day. Maybe...for now he'll just focus on the question on why you were so...annoyingly captivating.
"Puh-lease...I'm literally the baddest of them all...I can prove it to you from my pictures.." Rafayel huffed, the others watched as he got closer to you. The both of you, bickering and bantering back and forth.
"Let me see..."
"Eager are we?"
"Yea...I'm very eager to see how dumb you look."
"Why you-"
"Well...they're hitting it off nicely it seems.." MC grins while placing her hands on her hips, looking at the boys who seemed to be quite amused at the sight. She lets out a sigh of relief, usually they weren't this amused whenever she'd introduce them to a new friend of hers or something. They would be nice and act kind but they weren't paying much attention most of the time.
"Let's keep her...She gets Rafayel distracted easily..." Xavier yawns with a small smile on his face, at first he technically didn't want to come since he doesn't really visit anyone else in the hospital apart from MC being injured or Zayne who needed some quick sugar rush, It's his drug, he won't survive without it honestly so Xavier would be called to get him some which Xavier didn't mind cause he'd get some too using Zayne's money. But now he's glad he went, cause you are...pretty amusing in a way.
"I agree....and it's rather fun seeing him all worked up too because usually it's only us that would be allowed to tease him like that and he'd respond in a playful manner, meanwhile with others he'd just looked indifferent but here we are..." Zayne nods, pushing his glasses up while he leans back against Caleb who gently rubbed his shoulder. "Mhmm...He needs more human friends than fishes anyway..." Caleb snorts while they chuckle quietly.
The reason as to why Zayne went, is because he wanted to check up on you and give you a brief detail of things you need to do in order to recover fully with good health. He didn't understand why he wanted to tell you all these things, he even made a long list of things to do just in case you didn't comprehend from just his explaination alone, the paper was in his hand, he's gonna give it to you once you're more available. Caleb on the other hand, just wanted to see and observe the person his Pipsqueak had been gushing all about, cause MC LOVES mentioning you for some odd reason and now he could understand why, only a little as he didn't know you fully enough.
"She has...quite the allure, kitten...Are you sure she's just a normal citizen?" Sylus adds, tapping his chin while looking down at MC who nods, a soft smile on her lips. You were fascinating in Sylus's eyes, other than MC and the underlings he's forced to call friends. You were quite the comedian. He likes how you can joke without being downright disrespectful but still sharp and irritating. He himself likes to rage-bait, so to have met someone with the same hobbies like him made him feel intrigued but only a bit.
"Yea she is...but despite that, she's strong in a way that may not be physical but emotionally or mentally. She's someone everyone can easily warm up too and...she's great...you'll know once you talk with her.." MC giggles, the four of them look at her. Their gaze soften while humming in response.
They didn't know much about you nor did they ever think they would want to but a tiny form of curiosity inside of them wished to know what MC meant. The way her eyes sparkled and her face beaming, her shoulders relaxed as if she didn't go on countless stressful missions. They're definitely gonna keep you just so MC could look like that more often. They definitely will.
Definitely not because they're interested and curious. Nope, not at allll...
You felt a sudden shift in the room, looking around while Rafayel rambles about how he's the most attractive, charming, handsome, etc... out there. Seeing their gazes on you—warmth, observing, curious, and amusement written on their faces. You felt a sudden feeling of dread for some odd reason. You didn't like capturing attention, hence why one of the few reasons you kept yourself at home.
Capturing attention leads to a lot of things. Things you didn't really want unless it's getting a promotion at work and less work time at the same time or maybe some cute animals going near you, only a few of the most acceptable ways of having someone or some animal give attention to you. Breaking away from their gaze as you look back at Rafayel who stared at you intensely with a smile on his face, although a bit forced, you can tell.
"Hey...Focus on me, I'm literally the one talking to you, not them." His pouts slightly before pushing his phone towards your face, making you blink at the picture. Something about Rafayel's reaction didn't feel right, you don't know. And honestly, you hoped not to know, ever. "I am, I am...just thinking about something, you brat..." Rafayel huffed as he began rambling back once more. Gods, was he quite the yapper. Not that you mind but when the way the energy shifted. Yea that you do mind.
'I swear...If something is changing right now... I'm going MIA until no one remembers me.'
After some time of Rafayel yapping at you, Zayne walked towards you. Capturing your attention to his approaching figure, the rest of them stared at him. Zayne pulls out a paper with a long list of things, you raise a brow smirking at him. "For me, doc?...Why the need to make a list?..." You reach out, taking it while Zayne looks down at you. "Just things you need to do after you're discharged...I doubt you'll be able to remember if I only spoke to you about it due to the anesthesia..."
You let out a hum, trying to read but only a few words clicked. Looking back up at him as you grin. "Aww you care about me, Doctor McStuffins? How sweet of you..." Zayne sees that stupid smile on your face again. His lips curled up visibly this time despite trying to stop it he couldn't, he tried ignoring the nickname while he nodded.
"It's a Doctor's job to care for patients...even if you aren't my patient...It's instinctual..." He explained while you chuckled, the others just staring at Zayne and you. MC just smiled although a bit confused on how you two got close. Rafayel stared at Zayne and you, his finger tapping on the metal edge of your bed. Weirdly agitated.
Caleb tilts his head in confusion, he only sees that type of care towards MC and maybe if they're lucky enough towards him and the rest of the people inside this room. Xavier just observes along with Sylus who looks amused. All of them listening to the conversation. "Since when did Zayne get chummy with just anybody?" Caleb whispers towards MC who shrugged. "I don't know...but it's a good thing..."
"Never said it wasn't.." Caleb hummed, thinking how this was definitely a good thing. One less person going after MC, at least he hopes so.
After a few hours later, the visiting hours were coming to an end. "Hey..." MC walked towards you playing and snuggling with your babies, Zayne told you not to have them there just yet but you insisted and gave him the puppy eyes along with two of your accomplices, Valor and Goliath. His heart melted and lets you.
"Mhmm?..." Looking up at MC while your hands gently caressed Valor and Goliath's fur. "Visiting hours is almost up...I think it's time for us to leave and besides that, you need to rest some more..." MC smiled sadly although a bit hesitant on leaving you, she knew you needed this. You stared up at her before speaking bluntly. "But I feel well rested enough..."
MC looked at you confused. "I mean...I feel rested and energized with everyone here." Sounding genuine while they listened and looked at you, Rafayel's eyes darting away from his phone, still sat beside you. Zayne talking with Caleb, along with Xavier's head on Zayne's shoulder and Sylus thinking of something. Stopping what they're doing as their attention goes to you while you spoke.
"Everyone here makes me feel calm for some reason." Rafayel perked up, Calm? That's what he felt near you. "And safe.." Sylus raised a brow, almost everyone here apart from you and maybe MC is undoubtedly dangerous, especially him. "Besides that it's pretty fun listening to everyone speak....Zayne has a cool and calming voice, it soothes my nerves..." You chuckled while Zayne's ears turned red. This was the second time his body reacted and he isn't sure if he's feeling well anymore, he thought maybe it might just be a fluke the first time but now he wasn't so sure...
"Rafayel's weirdly funny to have around, makes me forget about my current state..I like how he talks a lot, it's pretty endearing..." Rafayel tensed up hearing those words. Fun? Endearing? He was fun to be around? I mean he was but usually people would get tired of his yapping but you found it endearing?
"Sylus oddly feels like a bodyguard...I don't know...He has that I'll protect you energy..." That made Sylus silent because how can someone feel safe around him enough to call him a bodyguard? He looked the opposite of what you just had said.
"Xavier's like that sweet friend despite being quiet and not doing a lot he still stayed, I appreciate his visit...I enjoy his gentle aura..." Xavier blinked, He was sweet and gentle to you? Frankly he didn't speak much to you nor came near you. Only speaking when he responded to you when you asked him if he wanted to eat some fruit a while ago cause he was eyeing it and you did give him some graciously.
"And Caleb...You're right about him, MC...He does make you feel comforted by his presence alone..." Caleb looked at MC then at you. MC talked about him to you? Comforted? He didn't even do anything to you yet you felt comforted by his presence?
The boys stayed silent while MC smiled and nodded at you. So this is what she meant by warming up easily around you huh...You were genuine, you seemed like the person who would only joke around and tease but to think you were also this...Someone who sees good despite the obvious implications of the opposite from what others usually saw.
"Yea...I know what you mean but still...You need some rest... We'll come back tomorrow if I'm not too busy....okay?" MC reassured you while you pout. "You say that but whenever we would make plans, you would ditch on me afterwards..." MC smiled at you while scratching her cheek and chuckling.
"Well it's not my fault that I'm suddenly getting bombarded with missions..." MC pouts at you who only sighed and nodded, letting MC take Valor and Goliath who whined at the lost of your touch. "Actually I think I'm the only one who's coming tomorrow...or if I'm free..." You looked at MC confused before realizing something while you deadpan.
"You forced them to come with you, didn't you?" MC just chuckles nervously while nodding. "I can't carry all of these by myself you know...." You just sighed before smiling gently. "Okay that's fine...I guess that's why they weren't all that enthusiastic these past few hours...Still I'm glad they came...I don't mind if they don't come next time-"
"I'll come." You were cut off by Rafayel, looking at you before looking back at his phone, scrolling up and down. You turn your head towards him, noticing how pink his cheeks were or maybe you were just imagining things.
"You don't have to..." You assured him while Rafayel just glanced at you before huffing. "I want to...besides that I don't have anyone else to gossip with, since miss bodyguard would probably be busy..." He pouts while crossing his arms. You stared at him before letting out a chuckle. "Just say you're lonely, man..." Rafayel rolled his eyes at you, ignoring how his heart warmed up at the sound of your laughter.
"I'm not but whatever..." He grunts. "I'll come by when I'm free..." Zayne speaks up as well. You glanced at him before smirking. "Doctor...if you keep being attentive to me...I might just fall for you..." Cooing while Zayne just sighed heavily at your flirtatious attitude towards him, he didn't mind it however which was unusual. "I just want to make sure you're taking care of yourself properly..." Pushing his glasses up while you let out a hum not believing him one bit.
The others stayed silent. "Looks like I have two other people who'll come with me next time..." MC grins at you who smiled back at her. "You're finally getting some new friends too..." She teased while you glared at her, you didn't have a lot of friends cause—again, you mostly stayed at home unless it was for walking Valor and Goliath outside. "Oh shut up...if you're gonna keep teasing me then go away already..."
You pout while MC just giggled and gave Goliath to Caleb who looked down at the puppy, gently bopping his nose as Goliath looked up at him and stuck his tongue out at the male. Valor to Sylus who stared up at him and gently patted his chest while Sylus just held her gently.
Slowly they all stood up after cleaning their mess. "See you three next time!..." You beamed, waving and swaying happily. MC nods, waving as Sylus left first, Caleb and Xavier next. MC went out with Zayne but Rafayel looked back at you for a moment. You stared at him confused while he contemplates about something. "Yes?..." Rafayel looks at you before shaking his head. "Nothing...I'll see you next time...Bye..."
Rafayel left quickly, making sure to close the door shut. You just looked at the place he was at before, dumbfounded. "Okay weird..." Sighing while you slowly laid down and looked back up at the ceiling, a bit tired from all the socialization. Thinking about MC and her definitely-not-boyfriends-but-companions, places in this world cause they were odd.
They had this energy around them too. Maybe you were thinking too much of it, reading too closely between the lines but your gut was warning you...and you trusted your gut more than anything else..
'I hope that I'll still live a normal life after this sudden change....although having all you Readers eyes on me now...It will probably be the opposite huh?...'
