Scientists are an ingenious bunch, y’all. In addition to commissioning or making custom dresses (we haven’t even posted all of the ones we know about!), they have cleverly come up with ways to have their science on display around their homes!
Lake Art creates etched relief maps of land and water as wooden framed art, serving trays, clocks, notebooks, photo albums, and cribbage boards as well as faux leather notepad covers.
Luckily JPL Science System Engineer Dr. Jo Pitesky found Lake Art and decided to test whether they could make something from a non-terrestrial lake. The results are nothing short of out of this world!
Jo got a serving tray, and her JPL colleague Trina Ray got a wall clock. The data came from NASA’s Cassini Mission RADAR, which used microwave imaging to map methane lakes on Titan’s surface.
You can create your own Ligeia Mare products using the Lake Art contact form with this info:
Lake Name: Ligeia Mare
County: Titan
State: SaturnÂ
Next up: adding more Titan lakes! What will clever scientists think of next?!
