Happy Sunday all! Wanted to chat about friendships and how choosing your friends can be very beneficial for your mental health! I never really chose my friends, I feel like all the girls that I befriended, we all just kind of grouped together and became friends because we were Gujarati and I guess browns just gravitate towards each other. I never actively put effort into befriending anyone and at some point, that came to bite me in the butt. I’ve read plenty of quotes, books, lectures, and stories about how you should carefully construct the circle of people you surround yourself with. And I genuinely thought I was surrounded by the best that was available at the time. My friends and I never really fought, we bonded over emotional life issues, we saw each other often so—of course, why would I think anything was wrong? Then as time went by, many of us grew apart. We moved all over the place. Talked much less. Our meetings were few and far between. Now of course this is a normal part of life, some people stay and some people go. But when I had much more time to myself, I got to thinking, why was I friends with them? What qualities attracted me to begin a friendship? Did we have conversations with substance or was everything about superficial things like what color to paint our nails next? I definitely felt like I wasn’t being mentally stimulated, growing, or learning from half the people that I spent a lot of my time with. I decided to become more selfish with my time, really give attention to those who actually helped me grow and wished me well, just as I would do for them. I grew to be much happier, less anxious, and feeling much more value for myself! In the end, it’s super important to construct your inner circle with people who support you but will also call you out on your crap! Have people who care enough about you to let you know when you’re being a little cray cray but lift you up when they know you can be a better you! Let’s support each other!! . . . . . #support #supportyourfriends #purpose #lifewithapurpose #friendship #uplifting #happy #medical #medicalstudent #medicalblogger #medicalblog #blogger #scrubs #life #lifestyle #createthelove https://www.instagram.com/p/B0MsKJGlEse/?igshid=1vtadi5arkf7a
