My Name is Barry J. Bluejeans.

Yea so I did drew this piece and I was like “I have to do Barry now. I’m legally obligated to do one of Barry.” So yea.

Of all the memories that Barry loses when he inhabits a body, Lup’s face in that moment is the one that hurts the most, leaves the biggest hole, rivaling only the weight of missing Lup herself.

Inevitability.

Her hand warm in his as they ran off together.

Inevitability.

Each time he dies and rises in his lich form he loses her anew.

It’s harder and harder to keep himself together each time the memories return. Each time he pulls himself back from the mindless rage and loss it’s the thought of her lost out there with no one else looking for her that ties him back together.

What if she’s alive and alone and stripped of the memories of them, of her beloved twin, of everything?

Is that better or worse than knowing what is lost? He can’t answer this for either of them.

The question that haunts him most, the one that would keep him up nights if he could even sleep as a lich, is: what if Lup died and the separation from her tethers - Taako and himself - has cost her the control over her lich form? Again and again he tells himself, “She’s Lup. She’s stronger than that. She’s a fighter. She’s a survivor.”

But he’s Barry and he worries about Lup.

He misses his lab. He misses losing himself in studying and researching and cold facts. His projects now are too directly important, too steeped in emotion. He can’t risk losing himself in anything. Every moment is strict control and one eye over his shoulder.
