for fergus (both powerful and important are up for debate)
"The least you could do is buy some shoe polish, Fergus."
(text starter for @libdemdisaster)
[Message: Fergus] OHGODOHGODOHGODOHGOD! Ferg, I just saw the most gorgeous man I ever laid eyes on
[Message: Fergus] And he asked for my numberĀ
[Message: Fergus] I didnāt give it to him though because......well, you and I have our arrangement now
[Message: Fergus] I mean, was that okay? Did I do the right thing?
@libdemdisaster (@Fergus)
In all honesty, Charlie had no idea how heād gotten this job. Heād applied for it on a whim, not expecting much. If Scotland Yard didnāt want him anymore, than maybe Downing Street would. After all, he could do security work! And heād already been cleared for classified information before, having helped Special Branch out with a case a few years ago, so that was a definitely a bonus too. Even considering that, though, there was the small matter of his medical history...
As it turned out, that hadnāt been an issue. Really, it had been surprising how easily he had got the job - especially considering that he was going to be protecting the Deputy Prime Minister! He was the second most important man in the country, right? Theoretically, anyway. In reality, Charlie had no doubt that all sorts of shadowy things were going on. The police force was just the same.
It was only his first day on the job but, so far, he was pretty chuffed with it. The pay was decent, it was only down the road from his previous place of work (meaning he could still meet up with all his old friends in the pub in the evenings), and the client seemed like a decent bloke based off what he had seen of him on the TV. Not that heād seen much of him, mind you. Charlie wasnāt a particularly political man - most of what he knew about current politics came from watching the news while in hospital waiting areas.
Anyway, his daughter said that he looked professional in his smart black suit, so clearly that was the most important perk of the job. When heād told her who he was going to be protecting, sheād said that he was like James Bond! His ex-wife had been less impressed, of course, but that was hardly new.
First impressions were important, so Charlie had made sure that he looked his best before introducing himself. Heād straightened his tie, checked that his shirt was tucked in - heād even combed his hair! It wasnāt that he was nervous - heād dealt with far worse than bureaucrats before - but rather that he really wanted to make sure that this job lasted in the long term.
āGood morning, sir,ā he greeted after entering the room. Standing with his hands behind his back in an attempt to be as polite as possible, Charlie made sure to put on his best charming smile.Ā āIām your new protection. I was told that you were expecting me?ā
ā i want you to marry me. ā @libdemdisaster (fergus)
At first sheās sure sheās misheard him. Thereās no way Fergus is bringing up marriage now. Not in such a casual way. Theyāre on the sofa, legs comfortably tangled together while Eve reads her book and Fergus watches the football. The kind of domesticity theyāve enjoyed regularly since Fergus left office. She loves it, the way they really have started to settle down, but sheād hardly expected this conversation.
She closes her book and looks at him with an almost shy smile. āIs that a proposal, Fergus?ā

@libdemdisasterāā Fergus gets a starter from⦠Sam Tyler
The pub wasnāt exactly buzzing when Sam Tyler headed down after a long day of work; only a handful of people sat dotted around the dim interior, the occasional clinking glasses and muffled chatter were so much quieter than at the familiar Railway Arms - but Sam needed the distance or so God help him heād either punch someone in the face or suffocate on the childishness the other detectives exerted on on a daily basis.
The moment he set foot in the unfamiliar establishment, looking quite lost and unsure, a ringing phone caught the detectiveās attention. He spun around. No one else seemed to notice. Or seemed to care for what it was worth. So he walked over to the pay phone in the back, pushed theĀ āout of orderā sign out of the way and picked up. He was speaking quietly, but with increasing intensity, until he finished almost yelling:Ā āNo! No! Wait! Iām alive! Iām right here! I am right here!ā
Some patrons turned their heads. Some pretended they didnāt just observe a lunatic take a non-existing call and getting upset when no one answered back. Frustrated, Sam hung up and made his way to the bar. Heād get a bottle for the way and leave in shame. Or so he thought. But of course he had to bump into someone else and make him spill all his drink. Goddamnit! This day was getting better and better!
āSorry! I didnāt mean to... Iāll buy you a new drink, yeah?ā
@libdemdisasterāĀ Ā /Ā Ā ROYALTY VERSE STARTER CALL
Ā Ā Ā Ā SOME MIGHT SAY HEāS GOT TOO MUCH TIME ON HIS HANDS. Likely, heād agree with them. On the other hand, itās rather more likely people have fallen for his little plan. A newfound interest in politics, heās heard people say. An improving relationship with political figures. His father will probably be pleased, but then, Endeavour is certain to find some other way to disappoint him soon enough, so that hardly counts as an advantage. If believing the prince has started to take an interest in politics means that the familyās royal advisers will encourage his meetings, however, heās quite happy for them to believe it.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā IN REALITY, HIS INTEREST IS NOT QUITE SO BROAD. It isnāt politics capturing the princeās attention, but one particular individual that heās come to associate with the topic. One particular individual who is currently waiting for him in the room theyāre due to have a private meeting in. He arrived just ten minutes ago. Endeavour checks once behind him for servants before he picks up his pace to approach the room. Thereās a spring in his step and he takes joy in his brief time alone in the corridor, free to smile to himself unobserved as he reaches the door.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Ā FERGUS STANDS AS HE ENTERS. People do that. Endeavourās father enjoys the show of respect, and lets them stand for a good long moment, but Endeavour himself dislikes it. Why should they waste so much energy standing up just because heās now in the room?Ā āSit down!ā he says, turning to close the door behind him. Endeavour doesnāt often get to have meetings alone with people, so shutting the door feels rather exciting. He turns again, back pressed to the door, casting curious blue eyes over Fergus. Heād given no indication whatsoever as to his reason for requesting a meeting, as usual, so heās keen to see whether Fergus behaves with uncertainty or confidence.Ā āI hope you havenāt been waiting long.ā Heās been waiting ten minutes, and Endeavour knows this, but itās polite to say anyway.Ā
They were careless people, [Tom and Daisy] - they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.
