I don't think they had any plans to pit George. And if we had gotten a lap or two of racing, George's tyres were freezing cold and Lewis is a 7 time world champion who is incredible in those types of situations. I genuinely don't think George would have stood a chance against him. Hell, I don't even think he would have gotten past him had Mercedes pitted him for fresh tyres.
