(1.) - You think I can still trust you?;
Dahlia crossed her arms, looking at Lexie. Her eyes studied the dark haired woman, her head lulled to the right as she searched for any line, anything to tell her that things were not as they seemed. Mostly, though, she tried to understand. She tried to understand what would have compelled the other woman to do what she did. She tried to understand how things fell apart. How a simple run had ended in a casualty that could have been prevented. She needed to know, which was why sheâd asked her colleagues on the council to be the one to speak with Lexie, to which they agreed. She needed to gather the facts, to clean up the mess, and maybe help the other woman. Not just for the sake of the runner, but for maintaining a sense of peace and order in Fall City.
The blonde backed up and leaned against the wall in the library, bringing her pounding head back against the cool surface. When she brought Lexie into the library she had tried to make it abundantly clear that the other was not in some sort of interrogation. Dahlia was not going to play a cop, grill her for answers. At the end of the day, she just wanted to find an out for the the other woman. Something that made sense.Â
âI know youâre probably pissed at us right now,â she began, stepping forward toward the table where the other woman sat, âThat run, whatever went down with that boy, theyâre saying thatâs on you Lexie and youâre not giving us reason to believe otherwise,â Dahlia pressed her lips together, searching for diplomatic words, âPeople die. As much as we hate when that happens, as much as we wish it wouldnât, it happens. You know as well as anyone, when you step outside those walls, youâre taking a risk. But thatâs why you guys go out in pairs, to watch each otherâs backs,â Dahlia took a seat on the chair across from Lexie, laying her hands in her lap, âPeople are saying you didnât do that today. I donât believe them, but youâve got to give us something. These people wonât trust you. After all this, you think I can still trust you, the others can trust you?â
She leaned forward, her eyes pleading for Lexie to set things straight, to say that she didnât turn her back or at least that she had a Hell of a good reason to, âGive me a reason to trust you.â
[CONTEXT (because what the Hell did I just write): Something happened on a run and there was a casualty. The story is unclear, but fingers have been pointed at Lexie, who the younger runner (a substitute-runner) was nearest to when he died. Some say she could have saved him but chose not to. Spearheading the blame is the boyâs mother, who is riling people up, saying that he could have been saved. Dahlia searches for the real story from the one people are blaming; Lexie Rivera.]Â
