Once again, squad dad levi is keeping me going through the last few weeks of school, and I have so many opinions.

The squad are literal children, and since they’ve been in the army since they were like 12, they have no basic life skills. When they go out in public, they basically just follow Levi around because they don’t know what to do. He teaches them a lot, especially because he remembers not knowing how to act when he joined the military.

Levi’s door is always open. Always. Not literally, of course, but the kids are always welcome to come find him for help. Yes, he’ll roll his eyes and complain, but he would so much rather they come find him than just wander around not knowing what to do.

Every time anyone breaks anything, they hide it in Jean’s room and blame him so Levi won’t yell at them. And it usually works.

This one’s pretty obvious, but almost everyone in the squad has called Levi dad at least once. Eren was the first, and everyone made fun of him, but they pretty much just ignore it now.

Erwin thinks the squad dynamic is so funny. He chose the group, so of course he knew they would work well together, but he likes watching the way they interact as more of a family than colleagues. He teases Levi for it a lot.

When Historia had really awful cramps one day, Levi let her sleep in late. All the guys complained about it because they had no idea why, but he just gave them extra chores to shut them up.

Levi enforces a rule that everyone’s uniforms have to be well kept. Obviously, most of the squad is physically incapable of keeping their clothes nice, so Levi has to teach them how to iron and sew up holes. After a little while, Levi Squad becomes notorious for having the most neat, clean uniforms in the whole regiment.

Squad Dad Levi has been the glue holding me together, so it’s about time I contribute.

Yet ANOTHER Squad Dad Levi post!! The amount of time I have spent thinking about this is depressing

I alternated between writing this and studying for my two day long math final next week, so sorry if it turned out weird <3

On really sunny, nice afternoons, Levi makes the squad go out and train. They all complain SO much because they just want to relax when it’s such a beautiful day, but he insists. But really, it’s just an excuse to let them be outside all day, and he doesn’t enforce any actual training. They just kind of fly around to “work on ODM maneuvers” and enjoy the breeze.

When the squad was first formed and they had to start spending time around Levi, most of them were absolutely terrified. Eren was the only one who had really seen him outside of combat, so everyone else was incredibly awkward and afraid to make a single noise in his presence, which really annoyed Levi. One day, Connie made a dirty joke directed at Jean, and Levi snorted slightly. From that day forward, it was agreed that he wasn’t quite as scary as he seemed.

In their first few weeks as a squad, Levi observed all of their behaviors to devise a different rewards system for each of them. When Sasha does well in training, he leaves an extra piece of bread wide open on the counter for her to take. Or, when Connie does something well, Levi conveniently loses the broom and lets him out of sweeping for a day. He’s not going to say thank you to them for doing their job, but they’re still children, and he wants to reward them somehow.

Levi was still somewhat recovering from his injury during the female titan battle when his squad first came together. He did his best to hide it and preserve his reputation in their eyes, but it was still pretty obvious if you looked closely. A few times, Levi had to send them out to train alone, putting Armin in charge, because he was having trouble walking. They absolutely noticed, and although they were afraid of how he would react if they said anything, they all wanted to help. Some days, everyone would wake up earlier than usual so they could get all the chores done before Levi had the chance to do them. They also got really good at coming up with excuses why Sasha or Connie needed to be the ones completing any tasks that involved a lot of walking instead of him. If Levi did catch on, he never said anything, so they continued to find little ways to help him recover faster.

EREN

He pretty much never babysits, but every once in while, he’ll agree as a favor to a family friend.

Stressed out the entire time

He has fun playing with the kid he’s babysitting, but the minute he has to feed them or change a diaper, he’s done for.

Every time the baby screams, he gets overwhelmed and starts yelling as well

Absolutely terrified of lifting them up, what if he drops a literal child??

Overall, the child he’s watching is fine, and it could definitely go worse.

MIKASA

She also doesn’t babysit too often just because she doesn’t enjoy it very much

She’s surprisingly good at it though? Like even with no experience, she does a great job

Just kind of knows what to do when the baby cries, she might get a bit overwhelmed but she stays calm

Literally does not let the child out of her sight the entire time, not even to turn around and grab something.

ARMIN

Babysits all the time!

He always asks the family lots of questions before they leave so he can do everything properly

He always brings a canvas bag with coloring pages and picture books

Probably gets very stressed out when the kid cries, he’s a very empathetic person and it just makes him sad

He loves fruit snacks. If the kid he’s babysitting is old enough to have fruit snacks, he’ll eat a pack, too.

JEAN

He’s actually surprisingly good at babysitting, and he actually enjoys it,  too

Probably plays little games with the kid or sings nursery rhymes

Picks them up and like spins them around, probably says WHOOSH

He once tried to read a children’s book out loud and he just kept laughing because of how poorly written it was

Definitely got a list of instructions from his mom before he babysat for the first time, still probably brings it when he’s nervous.

SASHA

She gets asked to babysit pretty often, but she’s neutral towards it

She can only really watch older kids that are at least somewhat self reliant because otherwise she gets so stressed out

Also takes a nap when the kid falls asleep

Brings a bag with snacks and juice to share with the kid she’s babysitting

She gets sooo tired when they want to like play games and run around outside, she would much rather just sit and color

CONNIE

He doesn’t babysit by himself, but he sometimes goes along and helps other people 

Genuinely speaks toddler. He’s basically on the same wavelength as the kids he watches, and they can communicate pretty well

He is fully prepared to play peekaboo for HOURS. He’s probably just as entertained by it as the kid.

Also really good at playing outside and running around, likes playing tag (sometimes gets a little too competitive and has to stop)

HANGE

It’s VERY rare that someone asks them to babysit, but they’re surprisingly not too bad at it.

Brings one of those little bug collecting kits along, and they probably spend the whole time outside studying ants and caterpillars

Definitely trained in first aid, and always has bandaids with cartoon characters on them

All the kids they babysit like to play with dinosaurs with Hange because they can explain every dinosaur’s name and what they were like

Also probably does better with slightly older kids than with babies

LEVI

He only babysat ONCE, when a close family friend had an emergency and needed someone to watch their toddler.

They sat on the ground for a few minutes and just... stared at each other, because Levi had no idea what to do

Their working relationship was built on mutual respect. The kid didn’t cry once the whole time, just calmly asked Levi for whatever they needed. Nobody knows how he pulled this off, but he did.

Read out loud from one of his own books, and even though the kid had no idea what he was saying, they seemed like they enjoyed it. Levi even changed his voice slightly for the different characters, and it made the kid giggle.

The family asked him to babysit again in the future after seeing how well he did, and he said no

ERWIN

Literal dad, and such a good babysitter

Lifts the kid up on his shoulders while they’re walking around the house

Reads picture books in the most dramatic voices, and it even makes him laugh once in a while.

Terrible at art, and the kids he babysits always make fun of him for how bad his drawings turn out. 

Probably sings to the kids, and they think it’s really funny

I KNOW I already have so many eruri headcanons but that’s not stopping me because I’m obsessed with them <3

The last paragraph is sad because... of course. But otherwise, just cute and fluffy :)

Levi squad family game night!!! Connie and Sasha started it the first time, but now it’s actually Levi who leaves hints that this would be a good night for it. He doesn’t participate fully, he mostly just supervises, but he likes giving the kids opportunities to just be normal kids.

After everything with Connie’s mom, he shut down for a little while. Levi knows a thing or two about loss, and he was probably the best support during that time, even though they barely knew each other. Even after Connie started doing better, those two kept that bond, and Levi silently checks in on him once in a while.

Jean is the new Oruo (Oluo?), definitely not to the extreme, but he admires the captain so much and tries to act more like him. The kids make fun of him for it once in a while, but that doesn’t stop him. However, they did make fun of him enough for the time he held his teacup like Levi that he hasn’t done it since.

Levi’s handwriting is actually really bad, which stresses him out, so the kids help him with paperwork a lot, usually Historia or Sasha. Eren volunteered once, but his handwriting is literally illegible, and it went really badly. Levi really appreciates their help, and he’ll usually make them tea or make their bed in exchange to thank them.

Speaking of tea, I think it’s a huge part of the Levi squad dynamic.

Everyone on the squad has to be trained on how to make tea properly, which basically means up to Levi’s standards. Connie took the longest, just because he could not mentally grasp the concept that there’s good tea and bad tea. It’s just tea? But even he got there eventually.

Anytime someone gets hurt during training or just has a bad day, they find a cup of tea waiting for them. Even the kids who don’t like tea all that much learn to like it because of how happy the gesture makes them, and after a while, they start doing the same thing for Levi. When he seems particularly stressed, one of the kids will make him tea and set it in his office. Mikasa refuses to do it, but she’ll agree to help Eren when he does. The first time they did this, Levi couldn’t speak, he was so grateful. Every time this happens from then on, he smiles just slightly, and he’s instantly less stressed.

Modern Levi is so funny to me, like can you imagine meeting him

Pretty much never drinks water unless it’s in tea

He has one of those toasters where the bread pops up when it’s done, and it scares him just slightly every single time

He drives in absolute silence. If someone else is in the car with him, he MIGHT allow quiet music, but usually not. It’s like being in a classroom while students are taking a test, it’s so eerie.

Designated driver friend. He fought it at first because he doesn’t want to look after a bunch of drunk people, but at least this way he knows they’re alright. And it’s not like he drinks anyway.

He has one pillow and one thin blanket. Doesn’t matter what season it is, this is a constant for him.

In general, he hates plants, but he has one small peace lily. It’s his pride and joy, and he did extensive research on how to care for it perfectly. That plant has never received anything other than purified, filtered water.

He’s perpetually cold, and his office and bedroom are cold. Why doesn’t he just heat his office so he’s not cold? Literally nobody knows.

He HATES swimming. At MOST, he’ll dangle his legs into the water, but he doesn’t even like that very much.

Once got in an argument with a grocery store employee because their iced tea wasn’t “real tea”. He’s usually SO nice to employees, but this just insulted him.

When Hange drags him to starbucks, he gets a bottled water just to spite them.

His phone is always fully charged, but it doesn’t even make a difference because his phone is always almost off. Good luck contacting him.

He has a TERRIBLE cheap flip phone that he refuses to replace because “it serves it’s purpose”

The only picture on his phone is an accidental selfie of him and Hange that he can’t figure out how to delete

He can’t stand the smell of coffee. It’s just awful.

He has a surprisingly large candle collection, mainly from homegoods or Marshall’s. His favorite scent is rose oak because it reminds him of Erwin.

No warnings, just fluffy, possibly a little sad

I love these two so much <3

Note: Could this be considered OOC? Perhaps. But consider this: Erwin and Levi are out of character together, they just have that effect on each other. 

They work really hard to hide that they’re together, but literally the entire scout regiment knows, and they can’t say a single thing out of fear for their lives. Except Hange.

After every expedition, Erwin has to sit in his office and think about all the people that died from his decisions. Levi desperately wants to comfort him, but he can’t really find the words. Instead, he makes two cups of tea, and sits next to him in total silence until Erwin wants to talk.

Erwin once referred to Levi as Humanities Strongest Solider at a meeting, and he blushed so hard. It wasn’t like he hadn’t heard it before, but hearing it from Erwin was simultaneously embarrassing and endearing.

Contrary to popular belief, Hange wasn’t the first one to find out about them. I have a headcanon that there was something happening between Miche and Erwin when they were younger, and I think Miche knew Erwin well enough to just... figure it out one day. He never said anything though, so when Hange made a huge deal of catching Levi and Erwin a few weeks later, everyone assumed they were first.

Erwin’s actually pretty traditional, and he likes to make Levi really flustered with his grand gestures. He once brought Levi flowers, and if it were anyone else he would have rolled his eyes and ignored it, but he literally just blushed and couldn’t make eye contact. He also used to get freaked out every time Erwin complimented him, but he moved past that with time.
