This is one of my all time favorites, I have lots to say! Mostly about Eliot, as usual.
- I like the reminder that besides Nate the rest of them have friends outside the crew, who we generally don't see.
- I don't know what it is, but there is something about the way Eliot responds after hearing the gunshots that could break my "one thirsty comment per episode" rule. Especially the tone of "Hardison, come with me".
- "...not entirely secular." What a gorgeous and iconic piece of writing.
- I know Kane does his own stunts but I had my doubts about the roll in front of the car, but yeah it actually is him according to the commentary. Though with the way they've cut it, you can't really tell that, so I'm gonna say that was entirely unnecessary! If I were them, in the edit I'd try to show off more that they have a main actor doing their own stunts but I'm sure that's because I know nothing about making tv.
- I find Hurley a very irritating character but the actor does some lovely comedic turns.
- There is so much to say about the Mexican cartel bar scenes. For me it may be the most Hardison-Eliot scene of the whole series. Perfectly written, perfectly acted, Hodge especially. The part that truly lives in my head rent free is the look on Eliot's face when Hardison tells him to step back. One way or another that specific look will eventually inspire something very nsfw on ao3, just saying.
- For once it's Hardison spinning the statue like Eliot (/Kane) twirls everything. Is this part of his new Eliot-inspired assertiveness?
- At the impound, Eliot says "I didn't say thank you" but he absolutely just did.
- Much more importantly, are we agreed Eliot threw the rock paper scissors? I'm only like 80% convinced and that's because of the amount of time Eliot looks mad he lost before smiling, but I guess that's for Hardison's benefit? When I first watched, I thought he just legitimately lost (maybe he was lying about Hardison having a tell), then later I thought he threw it because he wanted to flirt with the police officer, and now I've come round to he threw it to continue supporting Hardison in being assertive. But I'm not 100%, someone persuade me cos that's what I want to think!
- The flirtation between Eliot and the police officer is very odd. I'm still not entirely sure whether I love it. The police officer actor played it beautifully though. John Rogers said the two of them played it entirely differently to how he intended it when writing, so maybe that's what's making it weird. He also said the two characters hooked up after, which I absolutely disagree about.
- During the concluding action in the car park, the digitally blocked windscreen has always annoyed me. Apparently they weren't getting the angles right to avoid seeing the actors in the car, at least partly because they were in a rush cos it was getting light. Still irrationally annoys me though - I feel like they could've done something more subtle digitally.
- Apparently Eliot & Lupe were originally meant to be full on making out at the end when Hurley admits she's not a nun. I kinda wish they hadn't toned it down, but it's still more physical than Leverage usually gets (and I do like that about the show, that it generally leaves the sexiness implicit). If Eliot wanted to leave straight away with Lupe, telling her not to talk to them, why did he himself stop to talk?!
