Over the years, I have been appearing on LET'S VOLTRON: THE OFFICIAL VOLTRON PODCAST, talking about a number of topics related to the show.

This year, as part of the 40th anniversary of the property, I helped review the 1984 series episode "There'll Be A Royal Wedding," a puzzling title (which we do talk about) which is INCREDIBLY significant to the property as it heralded the return of beloved character Sven...

... but it wasn't the case in the original Japanese GOLION.

JOSH: I love how everyone kinda had a moment to shine this season […] Kimberly, you had that stolen kiss, then you yeeted Lotor through the air.

KIM: I was like don’t do [kiss Lotor], don’t do it Allura!

Josh bringing up how third wheels add stability and function, and that a fifth wheel (aka, technically shiro??) would be better, and Kimberly agreeing with him <33

AJ: “I kinda always knew it [Lotor’s turn] was coming. Lauren and Joaquim sort of warned me, like, ‘at some point, you know you’re gonna go from like, zero to sixty,’ and I uh, I just didn’t want that, I was kinda selfish, I just wanted this to become a nice show where they all sit down and talk and play in the Castle of Lions.”

AJ had no idea until the night before recording how everything with his character in s6 was wholly gonna go down and that is… hilarious

AJ: “And he [Lotor] would have to come back to life.” So… Lotor really is dead, then? Although they later remark there is no body, so yeah, I doubt we’ve seen the last of him

About Lotor’s betrayal

KIM: “Yeah, ‘hell hath no fury,’ I guess. Basically, I think, the betrayal there, that feeling of the ultimate betrayal, because she put all of her trust in Lotor, and she didn’t want to do that. I think the fact that it was such a betrayal,  I think that’s really where the crux of that was, in her response, when she found out. I mean, she has power, she has to use it.”

KIM: “[bringing the new Alteans to a truly safe place] A huge part of the mission, a huge part of restoring the universe. I mean, the shock of finding out that there’s more Alteans, y’know, she never thought she’d see another Altean in her life, so yeah um, definitely. I definitely feel that.”

Some good observations about how Allura’s trust in the Galra and in her people have been developing to a head in Lotor’s conclusion (mistrust turned trust of the Galra, broken trust of Alternate Alteans, etc.)

KIM: “The Lotor story, I think that’s great, because she did NOT want to trust him, and she did.”

(bc of Shiro and I’m still screaming about it tbh)

JOSH: “I’m actually particularly pleased that people saw humanity in Kuron, this past season. A lot of them [fans hashtagging #notmyShiro] felt bad for giving him a hard time, of being not quite the Shiro they remembered. I’m glad that people saw that he was still a real person, like still kind of had the team’s best interests at heart, like the Shiro that everybody knew and loved, but I mean, his intentions were still right, when he was under his own control, obviously.”

Josh, being very enthusiastic about the idea of a Shiro VS Sendak rematch: ok, play it cool

JOSH: “I still feel like, as much as Shiro had a very healthy fear of Zarkon, Sendak was still the one who got to him. I mean the episode, ‘Crystal Venom,’ you see the reason why, so yeah.”

Everyone loves Monsters & Mana, and Shiro in that episode especially

“It was all those Shiro clones” yes yes it is

Josh is impressed with the fandom’s prediction and analytical skills

Kimberly thought Allura would react more to losing the castleship and honestly? Same. And everyone, including Kimberly, being super sad about losing the castleship? SAME.

Nobody loves and believes in Kuron more than Josh and that’s just the facts

Kimberly, about Josh’s Kuron head canon of destroying the facility once and for all: “I like that.”

their friendship is SO GOOD

Josh and Kimberly have “the same people/team” and want the Voltron fam to travel together more often and I think they’ve done almost every convention together and I cry

JOSH: “I think that me and Kimberly are gonna be at a few”

Kimberly’s quote she’d put on the s6 DVD: “I kinda saved Shiro’s life, no big deal. I kinda breathed life into him.”

Parallels between Allura saving, or wanting to save, Shiro, Lance, and Lotor’s lives (non-confirmed love interest, one sided love interest, fractured love interest)
