Five decades later, it's still one of the sexiest soul albums ever made!
Caption reposted from @youngmanamare Following the breakthrough success of his socially conscious album “What's Going On”, Motown legend Marvin Gaye started recording the follow up that would be titled “Let's Get It On”. It was released 50 years ago on August 28, 1973 via @motownrecords. Recording sessions for the album took place in the legendary Hitsville U.S.A. headquarters, Golden World Studios and Hitsville West respectively. Marvin created “Let's Get It On” with contributions from Ed Townsend, The Funk Brothers and several others. “Let's Get It On” incorporated elements of Funk, Smooth Soul, Doo-Wop and Quiet Storm. The sexual and intimate content presented on the album established Gaye as a sex symbol and furthered his appeal to mainstream audiences. “Let's Get It On” produced three singles which were the title track, “Come Get to This” and “You Sure Love to Ball” that attained success on the @billboardcharts. The commercial success and promotion of “Let's Get It On” helped further expand Gaye's artistic control. It also surpassed his previous studio effort, “What's Going On”, as the best-selling record during his tenure with Motown. The sexual ballads, multi-tracking of Gaye's vocals and seductive, funky sounds presented on “Let's Get It On” would later influence future R&B and Soul artists. “Let's Get It On” marked a change and transition in sound as well as production for Motown, which had previously enjoyed success with it's signature trademark. It remains a landmark recording in Soul music and hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time. Marvin elevated Soul music to a level it had yet to achieve in the 1970s! #LetsGetItOn50 #TamlaMotown #PrinceofMotown #PrinceofSoul #LetsGetItOn #Motown #LetsGetItOn #SoulMusic #70sSoul
