The Hairy Covering of An Animal
PELAGE noun | pel·age | \ˈpe-lij\
You’ve seen him before. He’s the incredibly talented photographer whose equine portraits meld horse and landscape together, creating heirloom photographs of the noble steed that are unique, balanced, and equally beautiful. However, you probably aren’t familiar with some of Leon Steele’s other work that focuses on imagery and abstract design through the form, texture, and color patterns of equine and bovine fur. This collection, named “Pelage”, reminds one of the time-honored combinations of earth, sea and sky. Some take on the gentle form and slope similar to sand dunes or those revered-by-skiers snow covered mountain pistes, the pattern of the moon, or ridge lines. Simply stunning and serene, this collection has exhibited in New York and Paris, and has been merited by the Association of Photographers in London.
