Eating Meat on a Lenten Friday -- IS A SIN?
Since when?
I am 67, was born and raised as a Catholic - and now some bishop in the heartland is saying that ‘Unless you are a young child, aged, or ill (all the reasons they allow you to bend the unbendable Catholic Rules) - to eat meat on a Lenten Friday IS A SIN!” News to me! I always understood that the Church asked you to ‘Give Up Meat For Fridays in Lent’ as an act of penance (or some other reason) - but this guy says that eating meat on a Lenten Friday is FORBIDDEN! A SIN! Is there an 11th commandment somewhere (on the third tablet of the 15 Commandments Moses dropped on the way down Mt Sinai?) that says It Is A Sin ????
BTW - those of us that obeyed this rule as children - you don’t think that THE PRIESTS ate Mrs. Paul’s Fish Sticks with A & P tartar sauce, DO YOU? Nope! They ate shrimp and lobster while the rest of us ate crappy fishy food.
